I saw these this morning, they are £4 so I had a look in Wilkinsons thinking they would be a lot cheaper.
The Wilkinson ones are £3 but I like the look of them more, they have sturdier feet and a centre spindle with a ring on the end to lift it out with (not sure if the Tesco one had that or not).
Anyway, I think I will nip in and get the Wilkinson one later in the week.
I suppose you could still use the Prestige basket and put the collapsible one on top so that you can double up.0 -
Does anyone know if you can use your rice dish/tray (the white oval ones) that you get with electric steamers in a pressure cooker?
I don't want to risk it without asking in case it melts!0 -
A newcomer to the pressure cooker.
Question is regarding the metal basket that came with the cooker. Is it meant to sit in the water in the bot? I want to cook kidney beans but am unsure if they are meant to be in the water?
Could anyone clarify it for me? Should have said it is a Tower Pressure cooker from Argos.0 -
There is normally a small trivet that goes in the bottom then the basket on top so it is raised out of the water.
Edit: In the argos blurb is says:-
Includes steamer basket with integrated separator, trivet and recipe/instruction booklet.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Looked throughout the box. No sign of any rivet. Reckon this is going on a return trip to Argos0

The trivet is like a very shallow metal basket, or a deep plate. I have never cooked kidney beans in the pressure cooker, but I would expect them to be cooked in the water rather than steamed. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

It can be a shallow disc with a 1cm rim. Look in your instructions.
Is there a picture on the box or list of contents?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

MOVING THREADS FOR BETTER RESPONSES
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. To cook kidney beans, soak them for 8 hours and then change the water. Put them in the pressure cooker (with NO insert/trivet/stand/anything else) and fill the pressure cooker about half full with water. Add a teaspoon of veg. oil to stop foaming. Cook as directed. The beans NEED to be in a good amount of water.
The trivet (the insert you describe) is for resting things on, such as pudding basins or other pots, and (for example) vegetables you wish to steam. To use the trivet, you need to add at least the minimum amount of liquid specified in the manual (for my PC it's around 100mls but this varies so it's important to check your manual). Then put the trivet in and the food you want to cook on the trivet.
Hope this helps.0 -
The trivet that came with my pressure cooker is a simple bent wire triangle to raise the basket.A waist is a terrible thing to mind.0
