Natwest "Z Marker" Internal marker

Hi,
I have been trying to open a natwest current account. I have a good credit rating but have been advised I have been turned down due to internal "Z marker". Natwest will not give me anymore information. I am currently disputing this but has anyone else had this problem? Anyone know what does this internal "Z marker" mean and had problems with it? This is causing me distress as I have a good credit history and dont understand what this is. Any help??:(

The Natwest scoring system, not your credit file from the CRAs, considers you're a risk so they will not lend to you or give you any kind of credit which includes unauthorised overdrafts which a standard current account could potentially give you.

Did they not offer a basic bank account?

Do you have an account with NatWest already?

Z markers prevent an applicant for getting any type of credit.

Im surprised they actually told you what the issue was :D

  • Hi guys, no I don't have an account.. I used to have an account with them. No, they didnt offer me any account. I was surprised they told me but I don't know what to do now. Should they not tell me exactly why this marker is there?? Any ideas how you remove the marker?

What account did you have with them?

What the account badly run at the time?

You can appeal the application in branch by taking a copy of your experian & equifax credit report.

The only department that can remove the marker is PLU (Personal Lending Unit).

  • I had a standard current account and the account was run well.. So that's why I am surprised about it. I will go in with the credit report and hope that helps.. Just cannot believe that marker has put on me and natwest are not giving me a reason and no explanation as to how I can remove it

Your credit report must have been dodgy or part of the thin files when it was originally accepted previously.

If you closed the account previously why would you want to bank with them again?

Why don't you try banking elsewhere and see if you qualify for a current account there. FD and Halifax currently offer money to switch.

Why stay loyal to Nat West if they won't help?
  • Thanks. I think I will but I am now determined to get the natwest account as I really want the marker situation resolved. Any help in getting it or removed or others who have had same problems??

As suggested in my previous post this would the best outcome however there must have been an issue with your credit file when you applied or your account was not run as it should have been are normally the main reasons.
