4 years no pay rise. what action can employees take?

At the end of the day you are free to walk.
Work is like a 2 way exploitation. They pay you as little as they can, and ask you for as much work as they can, and you ask for as much as you think you can get, for the least stress you can have.
If you want a lot more you usually have to change industries and locations.
It's all about supply and demand. If the demand for your skills are high and there are not enough people then the price you can charge goes up.0 -
OP - I don't really get it. You clearly understand and accept the reasons for the lack of pay rises, so where do you think the extra money will come from? Lots of people have had pay cuts over the past four years - could it be that you're a lone voice because, despite the hushed grumbles, your colleagues can see on which side the bread is buttered? Starting a petition under such circumstances just sounds like trouble making to me. It's certainly not a business like approach to the problem. If you really think you're worth more money, book some time with your manager and set out your case. Take examples of your how you have benefitted the company, plans for the year ahead etc to support your cause.
Do people in comparable roles in other organisations earn more? If not, then you're being unreasonable. If so, get that CV polished and get busy.0 -
you'll get the reputation of a stirrer and this will follow you round in your employment for years. Via references, word of mouth.!
are you saying i will get a bad reference for asking for a pay rise?0 -

No, but you're not talking about asking simply for a pay rise, you are organising/unionising your workplace, that is quite a step to take and I cannot see the management being laid back about it!Thinking critically since 1996....0 -

Interesting.
OP - Why aren't you listening to any of the replies on here? What's the point in posting the same thing again and again? The answers won't change.0 -
my company hasnt issued any pay rises for 4 years and have told me there probably won't be any rises in the foreseeable future
i have been expressing my general unhappiness at this but as a lone voice i can obviously be easily ignored
the problem is the company has to bid for contracts from the nhs. i asked if the effects of inflation on staff wages were a factor in the last round of contracts we tendered for and was told no. and it wont be a factor when the contracts are up for renewal. they want to put in the very cheapest bid they can and obviously any envisaged pay rise will increase the bid amount
without committing a sackable offence, what can i do to let the company know its not just me concerned about this tendering policy?
could i start a petition. what group action could i try to instigate?
thanks
Is it 4 or 5 years?

what about the petition idea
if a company were informed that say 90% of staff were unhappy isnt there a possibility this could have some effect? We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
