I am a soldier being sent to Afghanistan, any way I can cancel/suspend my 3 contract?

I don't think anyone plans for a coma but if you're a soldier you know that your work may take you abroad at any time.

thats a bit of a simplistic view though, reservists and TA have a very slim chance of going abroad, currently that chance is much higher not through any choice of their own. Likewise can anyone seriously predict their circumstances in 12/18 months, any of us could have a change in that sort of time period but we are all bound by that term of contract.Does Prince Harry take out an 18 month contract based on what he has read in the papers;)?

But why should private companies subsidise people because of their circumstances, where would this end? No one would bother honouring a contract and how would you provide proof anyway - that would be an administration nightmare for the companies.

why does suspending a contract create a need to subsidise anyone? But it appears you decided the OP only wanted to cancel despite also saying suspend and have kept up this train of thought in spite of other suggestions.

Admittedly I didn't see the suspend bit. I have a bad habit of scanning things over, although I'm sure I'm not the only one, especially in this day and age.

God, you people really don't appreciate our armed forces do you.

To think that our Grandparents fought for this country and it ended up with you lot running it.

I'm not running anything and I certainly didn't make the decision to send men to their death and to murder others for the benefit of corporations over a pack of lies.

Our armed forces are meant to defend this country not to keep British Aerospace, Unocal, Halliburton, Bechtel, BP etc. rolling in money.

you missed Hutchinson Telecom off your list of companies rolling in money at the expense of our armed forces serving in a war you don't think they should have been sent to fight......;)

I think the OP and soldiers should be excused from contracts such as these, given that they're putting their lives on the line without which these companies wouldn't be able to trade in the first place.

I totally agree and think it's a disgrace.

Thousands of men and women risk their lives and for what? So they can pay line rental on a sodding phone they can't even use!

Typical of this country though to screw over those who deserve help and give handouts to those who don't!
