holding Easyjet boarding passes on a Smartphone

Up to now I have always printed these out. I recently got a first Smartphone and have also seen a link on Easyjet's website to download their mobile friendly version. However I have not yet seen passengers actually presenting their boarding passes on a mobile to Easyjet staff at the airport. Everyone still had print outs.
Does Easyjet ( or any other airline like BA for example) now accept an electronic version? I am flying to Italy in 3 weeks and wondered whether I can do it this way. I would still keep a printed copy as a back up.

Hi Katejo - BA have quite a good mobile app actually.
I fly on BA quite a lot now (mainly redeeming air miles) and you can checkin on the app and download the boarding pass which then saves on the phone.
At the airport, security and also at the gate, they just place my iPhone under the barcode scanner and it lets me through.
This also worked on the way back from Milan so I guess its being recognised quite broadly now.
I can't see why Easyjet wouldn't work but the barcode might be too small on a phone to scan - in this example I'm going to see what everyone else has experience of.0 -
I've used these for Lufthansa flights from Munich - I suspect it might be the technology of the scanners/readers built into the gates that needs to be compatible, rather than the airline, though.0

A barcode is a barcode, as long as the screen is clear then you will have no issues holding the boarding cards on the phone...0 -
But it wasn't a barcode for Lufthansa - it was a graphic very similar to a QR code.0

I've travelled with my Easyjet boarding pass on my iPhone before (same for Flybe). Just keep your phone charged and handy at each stage and you're sorted.0

But then a bit of paper is not going to break down, get sat on, run flat, get stolen, probably survive a leaking water bottle in your bag...and so on.
The 'novelty' value is out-weighed the common sense of a fool-proof printout to me. (and I am total techno freak too)
One year I set myself up to be able to easily re-charge my pre-pay euro card on my fool-proof phone (heavily modified rock solid operating system). So all the codes and numbers were preset in it.
One day the phone was in my shorts pocket and the motor boat I had hired got stuck on the beach.. so I hopped into the water to push it free.
Ooops! sea water = dead phone. I had to buy a temporary cheap phone and fortunately the sim still worked. A lot of hassle though. If only I had printed the information out too, I thought it would be safer locked in my phone.European for 3 weeks in August, the rest of the year only British and proud.0 -

A QR is basically a barcode, be it 2D, 3D or QR same thing...fundamentally.0 -

I have just checked the links provided by Jackie in the previous message. It seems that Gatwick doesn't yet accept electronic boarding passes. My destination (Bologna) does. I will still have to take printouts at least to Gatwick. The website says the following about Bologna.
YES, mobile boarding passes are available departing from this airport. Please note that you can have one mobile boarding pass per passenger, per flight, per device
Jackie: Thanks for your previous recommendation of Premier Inn Heathrow terminal 5. I am staying at the new Gatwick North terminal one this time.0 -

The girl at the bag drop desk at Heathrow didn't have a clue what to do with my boarding card on my app three weeks ago for my BA flight. Maybe she was new but I was a bit annoyed by being told I'd not yet checked in when I had. This was terminal 3 though and I don't think there are many BA flights from there. No problems with it at the gate when boarding.0
