I've just sold an item on eBay and the buyer has just dropped a bombshell on me, they have sent me a message saying they don't have a PayPal account, what are the alternatives they could use? I would rather not have payment by cheque partly because of the inconvenience of having to gontomthe bank, not so easy for me and partly because we are going on holiday this weekend and won't be back until 4th September so if the cheque doesn't arrive by Thursday it won't get banked until we get back meaning it will be a good 3 weeks before I can post the item. I have mentioned in the listing that we will be away so from that point of view, should be covered if any dispute is raised, however, I just don't want the hassle.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

I'm not a frequent Ebay seller myself and as a buyer always use PayPal, but you might find this link of some use: http://pages.ebay.co.uk/help/pay/methods.html
hope this helps a little! 0 -

Bank transfer or Postal Order. I do wonder how they have an ebay account without a Paypal account as well. I thought you could not buy/sell without one.Never Knowingly Understood.

They have been members since 2004and have a feedback score of 45, I replied back asking how they paid for the other stuff they bought off eBay.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

Wouldn't that show as an e-cheque and take forever to clear, last time someone paid me via PayPal e-cheque it took 2 weeks to clear.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
You are very brave selligng this close to a holiday- some buyers are notoriously slow in paying and of course even with the new faster dispute time you need a clear 6 days to get out of a sale safely without risking poor feedback.
As a seller bank transfer would be perfect, no fees to pay (assuming they are a UK buyer of course). If your account is set up for paypal only then you do have the right to refuse any other sort of payment, but you don't have time now for that as you would need to open a dispute with them aafter 2 full days and then wait a further 4 days to close it.
As it stands at the moment buyer is holding all the cards, so you may need to compromise as best you can .I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I made it clear in the listing that I would be away, I also said that prompt payment would guarantee the item being posted before the bank holiday weekend. Potential buyers were given the information, surely it's their fault if they don't pay up in time.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0
