So you weren't called a silly cow, you eavesdropped on someone else's conversation wherein you were referred to as the aforementioned bovine.

It will be your word against theirs. If I ever take anything back to a shop, I always record the conversation on my phone. Wouldn't be admissible in a court of law, but should something like this happen, head office would be interested.
One important thing to remember is that when you get to the end of this sentence, you'll realise it's just my sig.

Given that it will be your word against hers (and her staff are likely to back her up), what do you want the outcome of the complaint to be?

Based on that logic we should never complain about anybody unless we have the conversation recorded or something.

This could be a one-off and nothing come of the complaint - or it could be one complaint in a series of complaints which make it more credible and much more likely management will decide to take action.

Ops got nothing to loose by complaining, so worth doing nonetheless.

I agree, had you bothered to read the whole thread you will see I even provided the correct details for the OP to do so. I was responding to the assertion that this would create 'threat and stress' for the manager, which in reality is unlikely to be the case.
  • Just the threat and the stress of someone from HQ poking around asking questions and taking staff into private rooms, will be enough retribution I'd have thought.

There is a small chance that a member of staff might take the opportunity to tell the truth. :T

Do you really think this happens!!!

Companies would need entire armies up and down the land the amount of complaints a large company will get daily.

The poster above got it spot on. Someone will just simply phone the store and no doubt another version of events will be told.

Thanks for the response You are all quite right, it will be my word against hers, the issue was that, the top had 2 massive holes where the label had been sewn in at the neck, ( didn't notice when we bought it) as it had only been worn once, and I paid £40, I just wanted an exchange. I will count my losses and not shop there again, they have won! Its going to be an expensive duster now!

The obvious thing would be to contact consumer direct , get the refund with their help then address the other issue that she refused to give you contact details for head office.

I'd certainly write a letter. I don't think behaviour like this should go unchecked, not just the rudeness but the clear flouting of consumer rights too.

I'd make my letter pithy and witty and I'd enjoy writing it. Perhaps nothing would come of it, perhaps something would. But it's still worth doing. I don't think it's right to moan without giving a company a chance to make amends. I'm forever writing to people - organisations, newspapers, the BBC - not usually to complain, but just to comment. It passes the time. :)

of course, its always possible that the remarked wasn't even about you.

im not saying its true in this case, but sometimes customer hear things and just assume its about them.

when i was working on customer service i had a mad customer with a complaint (was something we couldn't really deal with). So she left the counter and i started serveing the next customer, who was a regular i have served alot before and just told a joke where i laughed (nothing to do with the previous customer)

The women then came storming over and had a go at me for laughing at her, went and complained to the manager and to head office

!!!!!!? Are you British or not? Don't just wag your tail and roll over -fight! Stand up for yourself!

At the very least send a letter of complaint!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
