The new app looks better than Receipt Hog so far I think - I like the idea of being able to cash out at only £2 and getting a daily bonus

Yes, it looks good doesn't it?  But it doesn't take fuel receipts which is a shame.  Time will tell.

Updated my survey earnings, now at £33.64 including receipt Hog.  Still not at the £30 for One Poll payout mark - just over £5.00 to go.  Prolific remains slow with very low paying surveys, assuming you are fast enough to catch them.  Waiting for the next payment to be confirmed so I can sent a payment to my laptop fund.

Sill haven't listed the old laptop.  Should try to do that this evening - a crucial part of my paying off the loan strategy.  Once I have done that, I will have a much clearer idea of how much I have to pay until I clear the debt.

I still cannot find the motivation to get my paperwork together for the accountant.  I must try harder.  I need to make an attempt to either clean or find a cleaner as well.  At some point, I will be lost under the mess.  Seems mad that I am trying to make money to pay for a laptop whilst talking about paying for a cleaner, but I suppose we are all different.  Cleaning just isn't my thing and I would feel better paying someone for the help than doing it myself.  Oh well, maybe I should just plug the vac in and switch it on...

I get the cleaner - I would rather work more hours and pay for a cleaner too. Mine is coming back fortnightly from this coming Wednesday. I would rather it was twice weekly but it is a start!

  • We did airbnb for a couple of years in our other house. We had an en-suite top floor ( tall terrace) gimicky as overlooking the waterfront. We had a cheaper rent £35pn, £150pw or £450pcm. It was surprisingly popular. We probably made about £9k in 2 1/2 years. We blocked out when we couldn't or didn't want guests. We moved to downsize and find privacy again as we also had a lodger in the basement.

Thanks Savings and Moneyfordreams, both of you are confirming what I know I should be doing.  I guess the first thing to do is to locate and employ a cleaner.  I think once a fortnight would be great.  I need to put an add in the local Spar shop.  Then I need to get the house and the room ready for next year.  A bit of a long term plan, but at least it is a plan.  Money, it sounds as if you were doing it big, with £450 a month.  I really only want to do weekends, 2 nights at most, and not every weekend either.  £35 per night sounds reasonable.  Was that per person or per booking?  I would only wish to take adults with no children.

I spotted that too, but I've put a Sainsbury's one through and they've approved it 😀 No harm in trying I thought, and if they're looking at the retailer rather than the purchases it might work! I'd give it a go if you're buying from a supermarket

Oh, thanks for letting me know South_Coast.  I threw the receipt away!  Oh well, I will try again, as I usually buy from Tesco's for the points - not what they used to be!

Today, I did a bit of a last minute money shuffle and managed to pay £100 into the mortgage.  Don't feel this will leave me too short, as I'm pretty sure it is payday this week.

Will update the surveys figure at the end of the month.  Quite pleased with that figure so far and definitely worth it to help oil the wheels so to speak.  I think monitoring how much you make on a monthly basis holds you accountable to what you do with it, rather than it just disappearing.

Definitely worth trying smkt petrol receipts - I've put 2 through absolutely fine on the new app :)  Annoyingly I'd not long cashed out £20 from Hog when they did their announcement, so I've got virtually no chance of getting anywhere towards the next cashout :(  I also do HuYu, Sh0pp1x, SnapMy3ats and Z1pzer0 (Latter is a bit useless - Im hanging on hopefully for my £60.....)

Wow Greent, I didn't know there were so many.  Thank you for the info.  I will look at getting the apps.

Pay day and did the money shuffle.  Everything covered.  Will look to pay myself first on the 1st and pay an extra £100 into the mortgage.  Not doing it before, as I know that this pay is for September not August.  Must show control!

New month, so have done my NSD challenge for August and managed 13 days.  20 was too much of a stretch, but will try for 15 days in September.  I managed to make £35.71 in surveys in one month, so pleased with that as well, so it will go towards the price of my new laptop.  I have my old laptop on ebay, so hopefully, I will get something towards the debt and will pay it all off within the 2 years interest free period.  I have paid £30 so far in August.  I will pay more when I can withdraw from the surveys.  I still have not reached the £30 withdrawal level from One Poll, so that will be an additional £30 off the debt when it arrives.  I see this all as progress in the right direction.

I made another £100 payment to the mortgage for August, so again, heading in the right direction.  I now owe £46,300 and anticipate that I will pay the mortgage off in under 4 years.  This is great as I wanted to be mortgage free before I get to 60 and at this rate, it will be before I am 59.  I am hoping I can manage it by age 58, in 3 years time.

I have a plan, which includes keeping a job!  And AirB&B'ing my spare room next summer for weekends only.  Not all the time, only limited weekends each month, perhaps 2 weekends in 4 for the summer.  That should hopefully help with the earning capacity of the house.  Rather than it being purely my home, I need to look at it as an asset, a source of income where it pays it's own way for a short time.

I have been looking at interest rates with an eye to re-mortgaging as the 2 year fixed rate is coming to an end in March.  The rates are quite high, higher than I am on at the moment.    Hopefully, by then, I will owe less so I won't feel the impact of the higher rate on my repayments.

So, make this months scheduled payments and see if I can make any more payments through the month.  I would like to be at £45,00 by the end of September.

Right, on with my holiday in my campervan, which is doing exactly as I want.
