Checked in with British Gas last night, as the smart meter is still not being smart and communicating with the Death Star. Absolute waste of time having it fitted. I will just have to continue submitting readings, despite the fact they never ask for them. Anyway, enough of BG's problem equipment. The interesting thing is they assume I am £1,100 in credit. Can't ask for it back because 'it may be needed to take me through the cold period'. Oh well, once they balance my reading with their nothingness, they may think it a good idea to return some of the money to me. And whilst I am waiting for them to make that decision, I look forward to receiving the extra £200 for heating my home with LPG. Not sure how I will get the money out of BG to pay Calor. I don't think the Government considered the fact that the large energy suppliers aren't giving the money to the customers to use as it is intended. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

This is becoming a daily occurrence! I am haemorrhaging money unfortunately. Got a puncture, luckily they could fix it rather than buy a new tyre. There are good places and bad places to get a puncture. A clout nail from a building site, probably fallen off a van. Cost £22.00. I will need to replace all 4 later this year, so a short reprieve very welcome.
My sister tells me she wants something. Not a problem, she is my sister. After it is purchased - not the sort of thing you can return to a shop - she says she has changed her mind. £90 paid for nothing. Oh well, you win some, you lose some. It is pointless telling her I had already paid for it, what will it achieve? I would have preferred to have paid the £100 into my mortgage, but it was not meant to be.
I think I will write the rest of this month off as disaster central. Good news is I have made £20 on prolific this month so far. Every little helps. It mitigates the tyre repair! What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Thanks Savings. The not so good month continues. Firstly a positive - just sent another £20 from prolific to my paypal account.
Negative - just got refused a new bank account. For the first time ever, someone has noticed that my driving licence name is spelt incorrectly. Oh well, I can re-apply and use my passport as ID, as the person processing it over 20 years ago was capable of reading, unlike DVLA!
Still waiting for my Alternative Fuel Payment from BGas. And still waiting for them to decide if they will refund my ever increasing balance for my electricity - currently now at £1300 as I made another payment since I last checked. It's really annoying as I accept I need to leave some of the money with them, but I think I want most of it back so I can pay it into the mortgage.
Anyway, waiting for the Bank to let me know what my new mortgage payments will be once I go onto the SVR. The next payment is as expected; it will be the April payment which will hurt. But, chipping away at the mortgage will make a difference. I am on track with my payments for it to be paid off at the end of the year, but I never seem to get ahead enough to make more than the predicted payments because something always needs to be paid for. Oh well, such is life.
Holiday coming up in 2 weeks. Everything paid for and just the cat hotel to pay for. Really looking forward to the break. Really hoping March settles down financially. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

that is one h*ll of an electric balance! Doesn't Martin say 3x monthly payment is a good balance - even now that would be a year for me. Good luck getting some refunded.

Hi MFD. Yes, its a stupid amount for them to be holding, but at some point, they will give me some of it back. Just looking at it as another form of savings account. Typical large corporation. They feel they need it more than we do!What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Thanks TG, really looking forward to it.
Wow, today I got my AFP and they (BG) refunded me £500 after reconciling my bill. Vey happy, this will go towards my mortgage as, looking at my Calor account, I am ok with this and already have enough credit in the account to nearly pay for a tank refill.
Once the money lands in my account, I believe I need to make another overpayment of £100 to be square on my mortgage payments. I do like my whole numbers!
March payments to add and then I can look to see where I am at the end of the quarter, in the grand plan to pay it down.
Still waiting for notification of bills for April onwards, so I can see how much money I need to set aside to cover going forward. At least I know the Electricity payments are not increasing! Just the mortgage to concern myself with at present. What I do not give, you must never take by force.

Still not received the £500 refund, but I have no doubt it will turn up at some point. My BG electric account still says I am entitled to a refund of £135, which I am leaving in place. It also recommends I reduce my monthly payment to £45. I have decided to reduce it to £100, a monthly saving for my pocket of about £50, and still opportunity to build a positive balance as I head into summer and back into winter. Now I know that I am ahead, it means next winter, I can ease up a bit in the austerity and use more leccy. A win all round I feel.
Additionally, BG are saying their next review will be in 2024 and the next payment is due in April 2023, so they are forcing me to reduce payments anyway by not taking a March payment. I may make a one off payment just to stay ahead. I dislike the lack of control that these large corporations have over you. First they take so much money, your pips squeak, and then they don't take any money, forcing you into a position where you may fall into arrears.
Mortgage wise, tomorrow is the last day of the month, so I have the last payment to make, but the end of month final sum owed is in the £20k range. A really good result since the start of the year. I won't be able to sustain the same payment rate as in the last 2 months, but I feel its been a great start to the new regime.
The starting balance at Quarter 2 - 1 April 2023 will let me know how far I have to go to clear the mortgage by December 2023.
Otherwise, NSDs and making small amounts on prolific all add up.What I do not give, you must never take by force.
