In all seriousness though, have you filled this years ISA allowance?

And in just over 36,000 years they'll have managed to get the entire amount into ISAs.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I'd buy a village and only rent/sell property out to MSE members as I know they'd be sensible about the purchases and would have done their research.

The local shops wouldnt make much money from this tight lot though...

    :rotfl:

It would take only around 6,800 years to drip feed it into your cash ISA :D
    Thinking critically since 1996....

I'm pretty sure the OP posts on another forum I frequent (username and wild scenarios are similar). He has a reputation as either a troll or a wind-up merchant.

Not too trollish, as this is something people talk about all the time when the euromillions gets up there.

I think it is interesting some would spend spend spend incl Hookers, others would buy businesses (my boys would want to buy a football team) and others would set up charitable foundations. All sorts of different people.

I bought a Gucci bag in 1983. I might be finally able to afford another lol.

I was of the opinion this was not a serious question, but a 'what if'.

And all our answers are based on the fact that the money was acquired legitimately.

My view from the start that something was not right so I did look at previous posting from thriftyarek888 which are mainly made early in the morning. I did this before my post of 08.16 today.

In the thread started by :thriftyarek888 25-06-2013
'Is 2% interest with Isa making me lose money before inflation'

Posting from thriftyarek888o #16 on 26-06-2013: keeping things as are now is good. I cannot open another bank account because they refuse me due to my poor credit rating.

Hence £400 million was most unlikely but why post such a thread on MSE in the first place?. Is MSE not a serious site?.

You are correct... Or he might not be all there in the head. As his YouTube videos show.
  • Most banks can handle that amount of money BUT questions will certainly be asked as to the origin of such a large sum and money laundering checks should be followed. As for the co-op (your example) imo do not go there .. they are looking to fill a £1.5 billion black hole in their balances and you are surely aware that the FSCS will only cover the first £85,000 (£170,000 joint account) of your total deposit so the remainder of your investment could be at risk in event of bank failure.

Are you a UK resident or in the USA?.

Thanks for explaining that well patientperson. Thus coop wont be the bank to receive this deposit. Which place would be the safest to stash £400 million?

I am UK resident and you?

Yes, MSE is serious but it can also be fun.

And I also think that posts like this one are harmless fun. It isn't the first time this subject has come up, either.

If this is trolling, it is harmless trolling

You've never been to the Money Saving Arms section have you?

It's the most popular part of MSE http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.php?f=58 with almost 6 million posts, the second highest is the DFW board with 3million.

And I can assure you, they are not very serious in there!
