Carphone Warehouse Galaxy Ace Low Memory CEO Complaints

Hi,

In a nutshell; bought two phones from the carphone warehouse on 24 month contract, Samsung Galaxy Ace.

After about 6 - 12 months of usage the phones the phones start displaying "low memory" warnings and soon cannot receive texts or calls because of unavailable memory. Read reviews online from carphone warehouse website, many people with the same problem. Took phones into a store, was told it was a known problem, but no solution offered. I even emailed the CEO and was dealing with the CEO resolutions team (not regular customer support), but eventually met a blanket refusal to resolve the issue. My request was to exchange the handsets for a different model, I even offered to pay a fee or something to upgrade them. Was refused. I was politely reminded that I am required to keep paying the monthly bill, despite having phones that no longer function.

Any advice would me much appreciated!

Thanks,

    Thanks,

They are right, you are wrong, sorry.
Yes budget handsets may have low internal memory, clear some space by transffering apps/data to the sd card (not all apps will be transferrable to the sd card) , clear the cache etc and you are good to go .....until the next time.
But it's all about managing your device.
  • Probably should have said, there aren't actually any apps on the phones, apart from whatever system apps are installed by default, and non removable. Nothing more can be transferred to the SD card. I think what's happening is updates to system apps and the OS have increased in size, and as the phone only has 150mb of memory for everything (OS and apps), it has become full.

Still doesn't mean you can get a new handset.

    Try a factory reset.

Would you expect to get a new computer from PC world if you used up all your hard drive space?

That is unfortunately what you get with low spec Android devices. It is not a fault but more of a sacrifice Samsung made to lower the cost of the device in order to get it into your hands. There are a few Android handsets in exactly the same boat (HTC Wildfire springs to mind).

No, but I would expect that the hard drive wouldn't come already full when you bought it, or if it did you would certainly be taking that computer back for another!

I would also expect you to read the sign to the left that says please be especially nice and help newbies.

Thanks for the great idea - I'll factory reset it each time I want to receive a text...in fact the person who sent the text can call me on my landline to tell me they just sent a text, so I know when to reset! Genius boy you are...

Yea I think so, I think in the interest of fixing it fast I will buy different handsets from somewhere and sell the Ace's on ebay. It's insane though that the carphone warehouse would still sell the Galaxy Ace knowing this problem. The first thing in store associates say when you walk up with one is "oh, memory problems?"

Install an app (if you can) called sms backup and restore, that will move the sms onto the SD card, also check the settings to confirm pics and music are on the sd card, finally, check remove the emails, I have a wildfire, have not encountered thesymptoms you do, but my xperia ray would from time to time, oh and finally, check and stop any running apps that you are not using.

You and i both know that 150mb internal memory is fine for calls/texts and the phone will work fine with no apps installed. There is no way at all you'd get a low memory message straight after a factory reset.

But yeh, i agree that it's a crap phone. But my point is that carphone warehouse don't have to do anything. You're the one who agreed to the phone and contract.

I think you've answered your own question in selling the Ace and buying a new phone.

On the PC analogy - previously most vendors filled your HD with bloat ware which you had to weed trough and delete - of which AOL was the most prevalent. No need to take it back to the shop, it isn't their problem.

As others have said, this is not an issue for CW, and a factory reset is the only way to clear the bloat - but be wary of updating firmware as this steals valuable memory on handsets than can ill-afford to lose it.

Have you thought about a new handset type yet? Personally I would recommend avoiding Samsung or HTC if you want to stick in the same price range. There is always a recommended Android phone on 'ere I just cant put my finger on the name (sure someone will clarify that). Either that or a Nokia Lumia 520. Considering you don't seem to want every app available the memory on this phone should do you well.

Edit: Might be the Huawai Ascend G300? Spelling maybe off.
