Grants for old oil boiler replacement

I have a Worcester Oil boiler which is 17 years old. It is looking very shabby and I am sure it is inefficient as it is so old.

We are both pensioners and am in reciept of pension credit. I have contacted my electric supplier EDF which have a boiler replacement scheme but only do gas ones.

I cannot find any help anywhere for a replacement oil boiler. We have no gas in this area and electric is too expensive.
Does anyone know of such a scheme?
Thanks for looking

If your boiler is working OK, passes it's annual service and has parts available, then I'd leave well alone. It woud take at least 10 years to recover the cost of replacement from greater efficiencies.
A shabby casing does not mean that the internal parts are not working OK.

Its just that it is terribly inefficient and I thought grants were available for greener models?

How do you know that it is inefficient? You could have appied via the Boiler Scrappage Scheme, but that has long gone now. Green Deal is an option, but it is not a grant but a loan.

This is an interesting website about the grants available to replace your old oil boiler with a heat pump. You'd have to work out the details.
Heat pumps are some sort of renewable energy that takes heat from the Earth.

  • Get in touch with the Energy Savings Trust. They will talk you through everything that is available and if it looks like you qualify they get in touch with the DWP to confirm then forward your details to whichever company will supply your new boiler. I am sure I read that oil ones could be replaced too.

Because the flue is not an integral part of the boiler? Due to the position, you may require a special or longer flueing arrangement. Look at the small print.
You may find the same thing with the boiler controls etc, you'll only get the most basic set-up unless you pay extra.

Our Thermecon oil boiler is 16 years old and yet gives efficiency figures of around 85% net, 92% gross when it's serviced. Not much extra to be gained there. I think that the talk about inefficiency of "old" boilers is exaggerated by boiler salesmen.

im in scotland so slightly different. we could get electric central heating no thanks, calor gas, oil or solid fuel. they wanted 500 for the flu for the boiler.

after lods of messing about we went with solid fuel but not using there scheame as we were not keen on their installer.
