Bump in Supermarket Car Park

Hello
Yesterday evening I was picking up my son when I reversed and stupidly rand into the side of a car. It was early hours of the morning and had no pen and paper to write my details on to leave under the wiper. I drove home quickly and got the pen and paper and when I got back the car had gone. I then rang the police and reported what had happened. They said that if the person contacted them they would put them in contact with me. I have not heard anything from them at all today and I am not sure what this means, as if I had found my car damaged I would ring the police straight away. Do you think I being premature in thinking they are doing nothing about it and where do I stand if I hear nothing this week.
Good luck with the episode, all that struck my mind is that if you were at the supermarket, the customer service desk is much closer than home, the store could have tannoyed the vehicle user, plus many mobile phones have cameras on nowadays.0 -

It was 2.00am in the morning. Store was closed and there was no-one around at all.0 -

I don't know, the reply makes it a little more bizzare as you started

I understand not every store is 24hr, I do wonder why there are cars on the car park long after closing, it could be staff I suppose.0 -
