English (GB) language pack is incompatible with Firefox 23.0.1

Options
Does anyone know how to have Firefox use the UK instead of the US spell checker, please? I managed to download it as an add-on, but on recent upgrade, it's saying that's it's been taken off and no longer available. I don't really need a spell checker on my system, but it's frustrating when typing to have FF keep underlining accurate English because it's only recognising the US. Strangely, it doesn't seem to do it on here, nor in Word, but mainly in Yahoo (yes, I have the language settings correct in Yahoo).

I just checked my Add-Ons manager and it says that the GB language pack has been disabled. Anyone know why, and how I can get FF to work properly in UK-English?

I have British English Dictionary 1.19.1 on Firefox 23.0.1 without any objection. I presume that's not what you are referring to?

    Click, Tools/Options/Content.
    Opposite 'Languages' click 'Choose' button.
Make sure English [en] is at the top
    Move along, nothing to see.

    Mine shows:

    English/United Kingdom [en-gb]
    English [en]

    in that order.

Should I move English [en] to the top or leave it as it is?

    Thanks

John, I just installed the version you have, restarted, and to no avail :-( It's still going to US-English by default.

Spud, that was always my first port of call when this problem arose, but again to no avail. In fact, English is the only dictionary I have installed.

I know that this is a Firefox issue because it doesn't happen in Chrome nor in IE. I have checked the languages settings in Yahoo, tried to download the English Language Pack there, and this is what I get (not available for FF 23):

    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/english-gb-language-pack/

So - why is it working in Chrome and in IE? Very odd.

Scroll down to the "quick reply" box below (or any multi-row text entry box on the web), right-click, select "Languages", and then "English (United Kingdom)".

That should change the current dictionary.

Language pack and dictionary are 2 different things.
I've never installed any language pack, so can't comment, only used the GB dictionary already mentioned.

Was going to suggest right clicking the reply box on here, selecting language, and seeingwhat is top of the list., but I think you've already covered that.
How about starting Firefox in 'Safe mode'

No -- that's correct. [en] is a "generic" form of English; [en-gb] is British English, so with the order above, you are telling Firefox to prefer British English, but fall-back to any old English if a British version of the page isn't available.

    Saved me a job.:)

I also remove the [en-us] options, but that's just me.

Off to cut the lawn. :D

Well, it gets even more interesting when I do that, because I see that, as with Yahoo, it's choosing US-English as my default. When I change it to UK-English, it just reverts back to US the next time. In fact, I was wrong when I posted above, that it doesn't happen on here. Just typed 'recognising' and it's underlining it because it wants me to spell it with a 'z'. I can easily change it by right-clicking and choosing the correct option, but it just keeps reverting back by default. I even tried re-installing FF, to no avail :-(

It happens all the time with beta versions of Firefox and with some official releases.

Don't worry too much as you'll probably get an update tomorrow or Tuesday in the background to fix the incompatibility (just wait and run an update check and it will sort itself out).
