    I love collared doves; they're so pretty - they're one of my favourite birds (along with pied wagtails and turtle doves). You're right, they're not native, I think they've only been around in the UK since 1955.

    Now, wood pigeons, for me, are the ones that I wouldn't miss - they make the most awful mess with their huge droppings :( and they seem to be ever increasing too.

    As boys in the countryside back in the 50's & 60's we were always out tree climbing and a doing bit of bird nesting, (:o:o, I know, I know, but we didn't know any better back then), it would have been around 1961 when they 1st began to show here in the North midlands.

    They alway look tatty and a very weak species, look like they should have died out to me.

    Strangely in direct opposition to the last poster I do appreciate the look of the woody in prime condition, I don't mind seeing the odd 1 in the garden at all, we usually have a pair nest in a tall conifer at the top of our garden. Each to his own of course:D:D

    :mad::mad::mad: No there's another issue.

    A few sergeant majors at the table I find good, in town the are worse than the pigeons, :mad::mad::mad:

    Another issue would be if someone was under that cloud of starlings, and a gun was fired.

    That wouldn't be an issue, that would be a success;)

    loads of little birds about today - had about 10 chaffinches, 4 goldfinches, a flock of long-tailed tits & a few blue & great tits at the bird feeders.

    Unfortunately have also had 5 (five!!!) wood pigeons feeding on the lawn. I really don't want to encourage them so I keep running out and clapping my hands together as soon as I see them land. Trouble is, the littlies fly off too :(

    I went to have a better look at my soon to be garden yesterday and found a large pole structure with various arms sticking out - something for holding different bird feeders at differing heights and angles as well as a small platform! :j

    So I drove back to the nearest town and bought four feeders and assorted feed which I filled up and put in place. And then went to visit friends. After about half an hour I went back, got into conversation with a passer-by and the noticed a lovely lovely Robin feeding on the platform. :j:j

    When I go back next week I really hope that other birds have rediscovered the feeding station.

    well I could supply 8 of the ten (wood) pigeons - 8 of them feeding on the lawn today- at this rate, there'll be hundreds in the summer!! ok, slight exaggeration;)

    I'm not happy about them :(
