    Thanks for so many replies.

    This to consider are:

    1. I've used my overseas travel of 90 days for this year. So no International travel.
    2. I'm travelling from South London and I'm willing to travel any distance within UK.
    3. Budget is not restrained. I can push it up to travel expensively.
    4. I've been to Wales 2 weeks back.So Pembroke, Gower, Snowdonia & Cardiff are out.

Scilly Isles seems to be a good idea though. I'm also considering Cumbria/Lake District. I actually saw about Orckney in a nice documentary 2 days back and seemed a bit fascinated by it. But as not many people are throwing much light on it, Orckney doesn't seem to be on top of the list for tourist.

I've been browsing the Isle of Man site : http://www.gov.im. Seems good. Is it any good than the lake district or any other locations suggested here?

    Thanks
    Terry

Sorry if this sounds stupid. Are the Canary Islands a part of the UK? I've been reading and hearing much about Lanzarote.

    Thanks

  • I went to the Orkneys about 7 years ago. It is fun for the little ones to travel on the boats, but forgive me if I speak out of turn, but there is very little to do with two little ones.

It is pretty to stay in a B&B on one of the islands and go for walks to find seals, you'll need to hire a car to get around on the mainland, and I didn't find any amazing hotels. For me it was like stepping back in time in terms of old pubs, basic accommodation etc, although things might have moved on in the years I haven't been.

The Scilly Isles I can definitely recommend. If money isn't tight I would consider catching a plane, can travel from many airports around the country, it will be fun for the little ones and you, the planes are tiny! There are so many lovely islands to travel to and I think this destination would be more suitable for the little ones.

Terry - in answer to your question, the Canary Islands are part of Spain (but I think I'm right in saying that they are not a part of the EU)

    Hi,

I wish to travel to a nice place with lots of natural beauty, but not too much of history next weekend for 4 days. 2 adults, 1 year old & 4 year old. Could you please suggest me what would be the best place to visit?

Last year we went to the Isle of Skye and it was real fun. I'm considering visiting the Orkney islands this time. Is it good enough or I can visit something better? I've never been to Northern Ireland. Is that a good place? Or maybe cumbria is a good place?

We are looking to have fun as well. Not totally secluded from town life.

    Thanks
    Terry

I would choose Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. Beautiful long sandy beach at Studland (all owned by National Trust). Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is lovely. Swanage is a nice seaside town, lots of lovely walks, rolling countryside, Monkey World for the kids and lots more. We've been going there for 25 years and still love it. We usually camp at Burnbake but there are plenty of b and bs.
