Hi,
I wish to travel to a nice place with lots of natural beauty, but not too much of history next weekend for 4 days. 2 adults, 1 year old & 4 year old. Could you please suggest me what would be the best place to visit?
Last year we went to the Isle of Skye and it was real fun. I'm considering visiting the Orkney islands this time. Is it good enough or I can visit something better? I've never been to Northern Ireland. Is that a good place? Or maybe cumbria is a good place?
We are looking to have fun as well. Not totally secluded from town life.
Thanks
Terry

Where are you travelling from and how far are you prepared to travel?????
The Lake District would be nice at this time of year...might even catch a few of Wordsworths daffs:D♥♥♥ Genius - 1% inspiration and 99% doing what your mother told you. ♥♥♥0 -
Clearly your departure point is very important. Maybe you could throw that in the arena. I've done the Orkney & Shetland thing, equally both Northern and the republic of Ireland and yes, the lakes are fine.
But, if your departure point is southerly, then you could make your way to Penzance, where you could either fly in a small aircraft or use the helicopter service to St. Mary's, the largest of the Scilly Isles. There, you will find paradise.
As with all these places, it is best to do a google search and explore on-line.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Dependant on where you are coming from and how much travelling you want to do - I would back up any recommendations for Cumbria / Lake District. If you are after natural beauty its absolutely stunning and there are things to do or just do nothing and enjoy it. I'm sure there are plenty of historic places but I've been many times and can't think of any so they cannot be over the top!
You may struggle getting in the most popular resorts now but sometimes that is a bonus as they can be TOO busy on bank hols etc (Bowness, WIndermere are a bit touristy)
Yorkshire Dales are nice too, and the Peak District depends what you like to do while you are away...0 -
Pembrokeshire without a doubt - the most stunning coastal scenery AND the cleanest beaches in the UK!"I'm ready for my close-up Mr. DeMille...."0

I will recommend the North coast of Northern Ireland and the North coast of Eire, superb clear seas, clean air and beautiful scenery. In Portrush a couple of years ago on August bank holiday, there were virtually no people on what has got to be one of the finest white sand beaches in Europe.
The lake district is gorgeous as long as you keep out of the towns.
The south of Anglesey is superb, in particular Newborough Warren with miles of sandy beaches and great walks through wonderful scenery.
Hope you have a great time.Just for one moment, thought I'd found my way.0 -
york is nice, close to the coast of whitby, scarborough and bridlington, flamingo land theme park very close as is Lightwater valley..

Ok ill follow the croud and say.....
Dumfries is lovely and the weather seems to always be nice when i go and its only about 30 - 40 mins from the lake district so u could do a couple of days there then up to dumfries. (look at Thornhill)
The Lake District is lovely
Mid Wales (Brecon, Hay on Wye etc)
Anglesy
Northumberland
My fave all time place in the UK (sort of) is Guernsey or Jersey. I lived there for 3 years and its just lovely.

Doesnt always have the best weather but some of the scenery, especially along the Antrim coast, is among the best in the world if you ask me....hard to beat anyway!0 -
Suffolk coast, nice and not too overcrowded, some old fashioned haunts like Southwold.
Leicestershire for rutland water, Belvoir Castle, Melton Mowbray, Leicester Market, the Great Central railway, National Space science centre and so on...
And yes i do have a vested interest, I am from suffolk and live in leicestershire;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:
