Well done Skinny :) !! The housing for your ex must be a major relief for you, allowing you to push ahead with all of your plans.

You mentioned 'psychology' and 'therapy' but there is something that in your post I think you have missed......what's the word........Karma?

You have cared and protected far more than your call of duty and this will have given you a confidence and inner peace. I am a bit of a part time heathen and don't wish to be corny and get too spiritual but there is huge reward which comes back when our own energies are applied so positively with the highest intentions and love :A.

Crack on with those plans now :D

    Broggers xx
  • Thanks for the mega post skinny. As you are probably aware, I'm going for counselling foR the first time and so hearing the positives you got is a real help m

What a lovely, upbeat and positive post…..I hope in 2 years I can also look back and see such a massive change for the better. Have to say....really helps when your kids are happy and content, makes all the difference!
Looking forward to reading more happy posts, good luck with your move :) :T
  • Hi Skinnylatte,

Just wanted to pop in and say well done for being debt free! I hope too for happy times ahead with your family - sounds like you've done an amazing job under very difficult circumstances.

I have lurked on these boards for years, mostly to get encouragement to stay within budget, rather than getting rid of debt, but I'm now in the situation of having £3000 of debt, having just unexpectedly become a single mum of a young baby, after 8 years of marriage. I read through all your diary yesterday, and it has been an encouragement, so thank you! Thinking about little spends is already helping, so my aim is going to be the same as yours has been - stay within budget!

    Blessed
  • Although sheltered is more expensive than a normal flat/bungalow it normally includes heating/electric and in some places water so it actually works out cheaper in the long run.
Would your ex qualify for Housing Benefit to help with the rent?
That is a very good point EE thank you

Broggers, once again you lift my spirits with your lovely words, thank you from the bottom of my wellies (I'm very tall so that's a long way) xx

INOD I finally found your diary :T:TI hope the counseling is as useful as mine

Safehouse - you are so right, when the kids are content is has a huge impact on our own lives. Keep on with your diary, looking back is a massive inspiration and help. Thank you for commenting

Blessed - welcome, and so sorry you've found your self in that unexpected situation. Thank you for reading my diary! Are you keeping your own?

  • Well DD is finally home, have hardly seen her at all, she's catching up with friends! Lovely to see her, she's feeling the cold!

I have ordered my fire for my living room, eeek, and it has cost £2700, I have also ordered the kitchen man to make a start before Christmas. Money all set aside for that, I just need to buy paint and order appliances.
Still no moving in date yet, but I'm quite happy in my little bedsit for now.
Ex landlord being a real pain about my bond, complaining about a tiny scratch in the bath, and the kitchen work top is delaminating at the join, I don't think that's my fault I think that's bad fitting. Anyway he's talking about a new bath and new worktops.

Must get back to some MB, it's been ages!

  • You should mention to the ex landlord that it's for things like that that he gets an annual tax allowance!

Have you got an inventory from when you first moved in, and did the landlord register your deposit correctly? If you dont have an inventory, he has no proof of anything, and if he hasnt registered the deposit, hes in a spot of bother :)
The landlord cannot claim betterment,(ie cannot charge you for making the property better than it was) so unless the work top and bath were brand new when you moved in, he can only claim for a contribution for the work tops and the bath, and has to prove that they were not like that at the start of the tenancy, and the damage would be considered 'beyond wear and tear.'
    Have you got any photographs?
If you need any help with any of this, give me a shout. MrsT.

Hi Mrs T and thank you for the offer of help, much appreciated. The deposit is with the DPS, so that's safe. I was never given an inventory, so i don't know about that. However I have said to him that I don't agree and we'll use the arbitration scheme. Cheeky sod said that he expected it to be in a worse condition after seeing all the stuff everywhere when he came in to do some jobs. I think that's damn rude commenting on my housekeeping. So I'm untidy, but I'm very busy and have kids, that's up to me.

Anyway, it'll all resolve itself eventually.

In the mean time I've booked the kitchen man for 16th December, and I've transfered £6k from my virgin card to my bank account, which I guess puts me back in debt, do I need to hand back my debt free badge now?? The transfer cost me £120 and it's interest free for 22 months, so £300 per month to pay back, although I hope to do it much earlier than that.

I'm not really sure if I'm doing the right thing really, I will re-evaluate in 6 months, I will put a note in my calender and decide, if it hasn't been a good thing I won't do it again.

In the mean time, I will get on with getting great value for my money and making our home a lovely place to live. Once I get into it, as he still hasn't moved out :(

Well it's the long awaited weekend. My payment from music magpie finally arrived £9.75 for my entire music collection, haha, I haven't missed it so no regrets, and it's safely stored on itunes now.

I have sent an email to a local financial advisor today, I want to really understand how to pay off this mortgage, I just have a feeling that as a 40% tax payer I'm missing out on a big trick, and a pension mortgage sort of makes sense in my head. Anyway I will see what he says.

I'm liking the new virgin card, as well as the interest free cash and the free wine, I get free access to the virgin lounges at airports. I'm liking all the free!! I will try it out next week as I have a quick trip to Germany.

Not much planned for today, I'm still in my friends spare room, so no housework to do, although I suppose I could do hers! I will get all my change of address letters written, and will have a mooch round the charity shops and the library.

    Have a lovely weekend all :) x
