I'm a blancher too - blanche all the veg I put in the freezer and it seems to stay nice and fresh and firm- don't think you could tell it from non frozen.
However I am all for saving time so will experiment and try a few non blanched and see what it's like. Will let you know.
Hope you feel better soon Becks.
Have a lucky day everyone.Be Lucky Everyone0 -
Hi ff .... yes blanche then into iced water (or under cold water tap), drain, dry, open freeze .... it's the way me mum and dad used to do it in later years - however ........ I am going to try some the way your neighbour does it ........ sounds a whole lot easier!
:T:T
Ps - can also recall mum and dads bottling/preserving sessions! All those jars!! Sterilizing etc!! Used mainly for fruit - worked a treat though! x
that's how i've always done them alfie,
but neighbour says she just washes them, tops & tails,
pats dry & then bags them into the freezer,
so am going to do some that way as well
we'll compare them later on & see shall we?
gosh, yes remember us all that lot for blackberry jam making

Big hugs to becks :A:A xxxx
Oh yes, I'm up for the bean experiment!
Will do some today the easy way, bag them up n date them - will try first lot in couple of weeks and so on etc. Anything for time saving!
Recall the jam making days ff - still have me mums huge pan thing up in the loft!!
Also recall mums marmalade making days - could be wrong but seem to remember the mincer machine being used at some point - (manual and clamped onto the kitchen table) to make a finer marmalade.
When done n cooked, it was put into sterilized jars, cooled, then round of greaseproof on top plus melted lard, which set, to seal it, then rubber seal, then lid (I'm talking a few years back now) Phew!!
Most beautiful marmalade I ever tasted tho, and mum was still making it in her twilight years.

We do have it really easy nowadays dont we! I remember our old mangle then our twin tub which we used to get bathed it cos the big tin bath took too long to fill!
We didn't have a bathroom in our old house I grew up in, until we moved when I was seven! It was like we won the lottery when we had a bathroom!
Hope you're feeling better Becks and you get a big win soon xx
