"They" often don't put up their own signs anyway; there are usually small businesses which do that.
Where we are, the man with van arrives, stacked to the gunnels with signs from half a dozen different EAs. He pops out, puts up the sign and departs. Half an hour later the sign is lying on the verge, having been flattened by a combination of friable soil and stiff breezes. It's traditional.0 -

Same where we sold our last house....in fact he lives next door to my son and has a garage full of various agents signs.
When we moved into this house we took the sign down after a couple of days and just put it to one side.....one day it had gone.0 -
I dont think anyone really thought the `actual` EA physically put`s the signs up....did they ?Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night.0

I asked mine a couple of times.
This won't surprise anyone but the agent was the nicest guy in the world while I was buying. Once I had moved in, he didn't reply to any of my 3 emails or phone messages about removing the sign or another matter.
And EAs wonder why they get a bad reputation....
Anyway I took it down, chopped it up and burnt the wood, stuck the plastic bit in the bin after some sawing. Annoying but oddly cathartic sawing their name in half!0 -
Hubby took ours down on the day we got the keys0

Reading this thread, I can hear my grandfather's voice saying, "God help us if there's a war."0
