LOL You can get dvd screen savers that have log/coal fires.
One thing I do noticed it gets very hot in dining room/kitchen with it on its now 24.5c and its on very low.
We have both dining room doors and kitchen doors open to let the heat circulate, but it doesn't seem to go very far, not in hallway that you can feel much but temp is 22c. Living room is just nice not hot, or cold its the only heat we have at mo, CT we are trying to cut down and havent had it on yet0 -
Thanks you can get them much cheaper on Ebay the same make £14.95 + £3.95 p&P they charge £27
Get one of these, cheaper and better with no drying time!
You stuff it with newspaper and use the plunger to compress into round log which is then twisted at both ends and ready for burning!

I believe that you can get some woodburning stoves where the back piece of firebrick is replaced by a small boiler. which I believe can then be plumbed into your central heating system using a pump and used to supply your radiators.
Hope this helps!0 -

Thanks, I will have a look as I was after another for someone who saw ours and was impressed with it.
I think when I bought mine they were £19.95, but have obviously gone up since then!
Do you have a link as when I have just searched I can only find the one where you need to soak the newspapers in water, they are crap!
Damp newspaper smells and takes ages to dry out, thats why I bought this one!0 -
An old thread, but might be useful to some with the evenings getting chillier:

We run our entire house on wood and I woodn't (:D) have it any other way. It's smelly, dirty, the walls are always black, sometimes it's gone out in the morning and I need to wear a coat, but I wouldn't swap it for central heating.
I hope you are still enjoying yours, Poppycat and I hope your photograph manifested into the real thing, Economist.

All this talk of wood burning stoves is bringing back memories of when I had my lovely coal fire, we had to get rid of it and get a gas fire, because when the wind blew in a certain direction the smoke used to come down the chimney and fill the house:eek: even though we had the chimney swept regularly. Would you get this problem with a stove, I would love proper flames in the fire place again.:D
You can get all sorts of hoods/caps fitted to chimney pots to stop this from happening. Most good chimney sweeps who know their stuff would be able to recommend the most appropriate type.0 -
Thank you snow dog, we are mulling this over, very tempted to go back to solid fuel0
