Hotels4U.com left us stranded abroad

thanx for all the replies especially Jamie Carter - very helpful. I now understand the process. i assumed they must have cancelled according to her name as they hadn't checked with the bank. I typed in all of my mums details as i can enter it a lot quicker than her. i did not use my details and her card as some have remarked on.
It was more the shock of being stranded and their dont care attitude and then ignoring my emails since we got back. In 40 years of travelling this is the first time its ever happened to us- I came, I saw, I conquered :j

Well it was a hard lesson to learn. But I bet in future you will check the details that you have entered with a fine toothed comb.
I've actually used these last minute holiday companies quite a few times. They put your package holiday together by finding flights and accommodation separately, and then putting them together as a package. But I've only had a problem once, when for some reason they hadn't booked me on the return flight with Fortuna Airways. However they quickly rectified this by putting us on a Thomson flight. And they even sent me a cheque to cover food, as it was included with Fortuna, but not Thomson. They also sent me a £100 voucher off my next holiday with them.0 -
I know hindsight is wonderful, but I really cannot imagine a party of six people including two children and a pensioner going on holiday without a credit card.
Four* adults on a foreign holiday without a credit card between them... unbelievable.
Was it really luck that Barclays helped you, or was that part of your contingency planning?
*I know you said three adults in your original post, but I'm sure you meant to include the pensioner in that number.
Why can you not imagine it not everybody owns a credit card. Even when i did own a credit card I never once took it on holiday with me.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -

The OP told us there were four adults in the party, the likelyhood is that they owned at least one credit card between them, and indeed this was later confirmed.Even when i did own a credit card I never once took it on holiday with me.
In my opinion, it is always good to have some contingency funds available.
I'm sure you will agree that carrying around large amounts of cash is not a good idea.
The next best thing, again in my opinion, is a credit card, closely followed by a debit card.0 -

no i did not confirm we had a credit card between us, my mum used hers to book the holiday the rest of the adults dont have any. I had my debit card which covered me for £500 - i called that cash as its my money not the banks, i also had 100 euro cash.
Lol i'm very old school only 1 up from sleeping on my monies :rotfl:- I came, I saw, I conquered :j

I did not suggest that everybody owns a credit card, did I?

Well, I'll make the same suggestion to you.

Even if all the adults in my family went on holiday there would be no credit cards as neither of us own one.Wins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0 -
I am a bit confused here in my dictionary stranded means not being able to get back from somewhere... It seems you got to the hotel there was a booking but it had been cancelled because the cardholders bank suspected fraud. They couldn't tell you because the tel number was wrong. The hotel let you stay and sorted it out in the morning what is the problem?0

the problem was we could not pay the hotel costs, as we did not have enough money, i managed to get some money from barclays and paid the rest on our return to the UK
- I came, I saw, I conquered :j
