JoshAlf, it was quite a long time before I heard back and was asked to join the panel - a good year if I remember correctly

    Hi Guys,

Newbie here, and I have a quick question of you pros!

I signed up for this Royal Mail thing last week and haven't had any email confirmation etc.

Does it take them a while to get back to you or should I have received an email by now?

Thanks in advance and apologise if this has been asked before!
I dont recall that they send a confirmation email...they will contact you if and when a space becomes available in your postcode area.
Historically people waited months if not years to be invited to partake, but since they introduced the 6 month rotation of panelists it has been quicker.
Personally I joined about 5 years ago and had filled in the online form about 18 months before that.

I went to post a letter at one of my normal post boxes today and the metal plate giving last collection times had been removed and in its place was a sticker saying that last collection time was now 9am for Mon-Fri and something about there being so few letters posted that it is no longer economic to have regular collections. Haven't heard anything from TNS, has anyone else seen these stickers?

Ive not seen any postboxes like that...but a few weeks ago I did hear on the news that RM were looking to change some last posting times to an earlier slot in the day,I recall 3.30 being mentioned and saying it would coincide with posties being able to collect post at the end of their rounds....
9am does seem very early...its almost as if they will be collecting post a day in arrears...

How does clearing post boxes at 3.30 tally with 'the end of their rounds'?
USO requires a target of town deliveries complete by 2pm. rural by 3pm.
So catching boxes is to be done through the deliveries.
Likely the box in question gets letters in singe numbers daily

Our only post delivery is 11am ( which is 'by 3pm') and the post box near us is emptied at that time. So last posting time is 11am.

Boxes which are ealrier in the round will be emptied earlier.

Those between us and the sub post office 7 miles away wil be emptied after that time by the postie on his way to the sub post office which is also the local sorting office.

Last posting time at the sub post office is 3 pm when the post for the day is taken to the main sorting office 17 miles away.
  • When you have a jiffy bag to post and it says to post at a post office.why is that if it would still fit into a normal post box?
