Car Phone warehouse deals

I am sure he was on both counts. Only some branded phones sold by CPW can be locked.0

Phones sold as PAYG are usually cheaper than the same phone sold as sim-only (presumably due to a subsidy from the network).
They may or may not be actually locked to a network. If they are locked and you unlock them, this is completely legal and neither the shop nor the network can do do a thing about it. It is your phone and you are allowed to use it with other sims if you so wish.
If the phone is unlocked when you receive it (as the Y300 phones are), then this just means that you don't have to bother unlocking it. You are free to any sim into your own phone.
The sim only Y300 phones costing £120 and the PAYG Y300 phones costing £60/£70 should be identical. The latter may well be subsidised, and they are hoping you will use the sim suppplied but you don't have to.
I've been getting PAYG phones and unlocking them to use with other networks for years.0 -
I am assuming that the £10 compulsory top up would come in form of a voucher, and that I could sell it on.
Or I could find someone with the same network to buy it for me, as the PAYG upgrade price is even cheaper.0 -
I may need a little nudge, as I am usually averse to change. I currently use a BB Curve. Apart from the obvious calls and text, I check bbc sites such as news, local weather and sport, trainline, ebay and amazon, some sports betting, autotrader and references like wikipedia.
What I would like to do is Skype calling with my family in Italy, possibly video calling whilst on the move, some youtube videos and the occasional iplayer program.
Although I'm an avid podcast listener, I tend to use a separate device for audio media, an old Nokia X2. I understand that the more files on a smartphone, the slower it can get.
Is it worth me switching to the Y300?0 -

Aaargh - you have scared me now.
Just sold DHs old iPhone 4 on ebay - am about to despatch. It was unlocked by o2 at end of contract, and hasn't had a sim in it since.
We have sold it unlocked - because it is. Am I going to get a problem with this ?I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Does an unlocked handset not then lock into the provider of 1st SIM you put into it?
Typically it's only iPhones that lock to the 1st SIM inserted. Unlocked is definately the way to go in my opinion.0 -
To qualify for the PAYG upgrade price, do I have to present the PAYG sim, or just mention the phone number?
It'll be a surprise for the OH.0 -

Should be fine in my opinion because your phone has had no SIM in it since unlocking took place.
In other cases where a SIM has been used after unlocking, the buyer could lodge a claim, putting a freeze on the funds and ask for a partial refund (£20?) to unlock the iphone - even if it was locked to their preferred provider.0
