new desktop problems

Hi all, can someone please help me.
I brought a new desktop ( acer aspire xc100 ) for my 7 yr old autistic son as his old desktop broke . It is so so slow everything about it is slow . , which is very annoying for us let alone our son who is getting so frustrated with it.
His old desktop was running windows 7, which was very fast, This one is windows 8 which I was told was going to be even better.

Is it the desktop or is it the internet ? .

many thanks:mad:

What is 'broken' on the old one?

Where did you buy the new? In a shop or online?

The first question is define slow, what are you using that seems slow. From your post it seems it is the internet, but we are working in the dark really, plus what was the machine it replaced.

Desktop PC's don't just 'break'. They are totally modular, so everything is fixable and replaceable.
    What specifically 'broke'?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

Have you looked in Task Manager?

(If you've not found it yet, open it by hitting <WindowsKey>+<X> and selecting Task Manager from the menu that comes up.) Make sure you select "More Details" rather than "Fewer Details" and have a look in the Processes tab and sort by the column headings to see what's using CPU or using Disk.

Windows 8 Task Manager has a handy "App History" tab which also shows a history of CPU usage (select the option to "show history for all processes") which is very handy to work out if an particular bit of software has been using lots of CPU but isn't at that second.

Also, if it's brand new, let the computer run, left to its own devices for a while (maybe overnight)as it will help to get through all the Windows Updates it probably needs to work through. One of the recent Windows Update jobs tries to compact some files to save space, and this may be trying to complete. A good idea perhaps, but while it's doing it, it will slow the computer down.

Hi all . thanks for all your replies, I brought it online from Acer themselves . im not very good with all this techno.. so please bare with me. It is three weeks old now so has updated all it needs to, It takes ages to search and download . it is 5 seconds behind when typing to hit the screen. It also says cant load due to long running script a lot. And my poor son cant play his downloaded app games as they stop and start , When i type in to the search engine it can take at least 15 seconds for anything to come up and then when we do get what we were looking for the page will not scroll up or down........ Our old pc was aspire to , there was something wrong with its drivers apparently and would of cost £250 to fix , so we decided it would of been better and quicker to buy a new one as I said our son has autism and lives for his pc .

Are you sure that you bought it from ACER?

If so, return it as faulty and get to fixing the other. Driver problems indeed.

Driver problems cost nothing to fix.

NiftyDigits. Hi, Yes definitely brought it from Acer . I took our old Acer to repair shop and that's what they quoted , it was 2 years old and kept shutting it self down and freezing . making high pitch ringing, now and again and frozen mouse. Also it couldn't find the internet provider ? . I was thinking of sending this new one back but wasn't sure if it was the pc or internet .

I'm asking if you bought it from the website to which I have linked in my earlier post or another. Please check.

Two years old is almost new.

Full model number of old machine?
