our cups used to be within reach, next to the til but now they are behind the counter as are all the crisps

The only reason the cups and in some cases the crisps have been moved behind the counter is simply because of theft. Some idiots thought it would be clever to take the crisps without paying for them or stealing cups and helping themselves to drinks.

To minimise losses some stores have had to reluctantly resort to this move.

From the other point of view, you'd think it rude if they were 'too busy chatting to their workmates' to pay full attention to you, yet why does nobody think it rude to chat constantly to their friends and ignore the person serving them?

(You may not have ignored them, I'm just making a general point)

Secondly, if you're still not satisfied ask for a receipt. This is semi proof that you were there, and at what time.

    (a Subway insider)

If you really are a Subway insider, you should already know that you should ALWAYS be given a receipt with your purchase anyway...

OP, just write to head office and set out the incident without being agressive. Ok so they are a franchise, but it shouldn't matter.... a bad name for one subway, franchise or not makes a bad name for all subways, so they should do all they can to protect the brand by sorting out problems like this.

Thats not true. A meal deal regardless if you buy a 6" or a footlong is still only one drink, and one cookie or one packet of crisps.

Oops, thanked you by mistake. It IS true, have asked in MULTIPLE stores. Some may well lie (including your own if you work there) but it has been confirmed to me many times.. Otherwise I guess I'm just getting them for free just for asking if I am entitled them right?

Lots of fast chain food places dont give receipts in less you ask for them. They wouldn't get marked downat all. I have been to subway, burger king, mcdonalds, bakers oven - you name it. If i dont ask for it i dont get it.

Actually it isn't compulsory to give a receipt, and in many Subway stores the tills are not programmed to automatically give a receipt.

However, the staff are always trained that if the customer asks for a receipt then it is given, no questions asked.
