low mileage yaris good or bad

A five year old extremely low mileage car would be nice, but I wouldn't pay a premium for one. Would rather get one with average miles on for less or new model for same price.0

The chances are the car has been owned by a little old dear and has just been used to ferry her and her shopping around town.
Nothing wrong with that so long as the car has been kept up to date with its servicing and that everything feels fine on the test drive. If everything is in order and the car seems fine then I would see no reason to avoid the car but if it were my money I would choose a younger car with a higher mileage.
Also worth considering you could get a later model (2009 onwards) that is facelifted and would be worth more when you come to sell it.0 -
Also in 3 years time it will be 10 years old, and will be worth very little regardless of mileage.I am a mortgage adviser. You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a Mortgage Adviser, so you need to take my word for it. Do you have any actual proof of main dealers faking service history?
Not main dealers, but I've caught a two site, "good reputation" 2nd hand trader at it.
I bought a car with a relative, and was told it would be serviced before pickup a week later. When the relative picked it up, they noticed the book had not been stamped and questioned them, so they stamped the book. When I inspected it, the engine still had an old oil filter and the oil was dirty.
Incidentally, that was an older car with very low mileage. Absolutely spotless throughout and still performs faultlessly a couple of years later.0 -

That's the difference between car supermarkets/ used car lots and main dealers. Main dealers can lose the franchise if they started behaving 'iffy'. Plenty have disgruntled customers complaining to the manufacturer about one thing or another, but when fraud is concerned it's a whole different matter.0 -
mileage has been a non-issue for 2 decades now. IMO it's a safer bwet to get with a 50K mile car than this 6K miles car which has a big question mark over it.
Has it been sat for a long period of time for storage? if so have all the fluids been drained out, wheels taken off and supported on stands? etc. Unless the seller can tell you exactly why it has such low miles I wouldn't bother.0 -
It is a bit expensive, despite the low mileage. I bought a similar car for my daughter years back. The story was that the owner bought it and then fell ill and didn't drive for a few years before dying. It was a Micra and was a great first car for her -- it looked like new. The truth of the story was verified when the tyres started to go with lumps on the treads, not the walls, presumably where it had been standing for years. Those old Mk2 Micras are just brilliant first cars and quite reasonable to drive.Je suis sabot...0
