I would suggest a long weekend flying to Miami, stay a couple of nights on South Beach and do the shopping, then drive down to Key West, around 4 hours by car and relax in a small hotel or deluxe B & B. The weather in late November or early December is great and high season prices haven't started for accommodation

Not sure why someone said the shopping in NY isn't good... It's incredible.

And I'd advise going in June (if you like the sun), and staying as long as possible. We went for nine nights and I would have liked to stay for a few weeks if we could.

where else have you shopped in the US?

There is a NYC premium, without a shadow of a doubt...

I agree, but the OP is looking for outlet mall bargains.

If you want good shopping rather than cheap shopping, NY gets my vote.

And there are still bargains on some things like jeans. Generally though, is Century 21 any better than TK Maxx these days?

Thanks all. You caused a dilemma which we solved with two separate trips!

First is Nov 25th out to JFK arriving lunchtime. Returning from Newark for the day flight on 29th.

We will be there for ThanksGiving and the parade, but we've been told the City sights will be quiet that day so a good day to mooch the landmarks. It is also our anniversary so I score a double whammy!

Looking at hotels. Was aiming at The Gansevoort but last few reviews have been dire......from another forum (flyer forum) I found a couple of hotels for half that price, around £650-800 inclusive of tax - namely Staybridge times Square, Hyatt New Jersey (too far out?) and the Muse £1000.

Any comments on those or any other.

Second trip is after Easter so I don't have to worry. It will be FL bound.

Sorry visidigi am a bit confused by your post.

I have heard there is an outlet an hour/90 mins from NY. Can't recall the name now and on iPad so can't search well.

The NYC premium comment is to do with a similar scenario where London is more expensive than somewhere outside the capital.

In saying that there are two outlets.

Jersey Gardens - http://www.jerseygardens.com/ - its about 30 minutes by bus from the Port Authority

The other is Woodbury Common - http://www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp?id=7, a premium shop outlet around 1hr from NYC.

    Thanks all.

TBH I only chose NY because the OH hasn't been. We have done SanFran before so it was an opportunity for change.

I appreciate some might think it is a waste of UC tickets, but we fly often and this is just a bonus trip.

Would be interesting to find out where others would go, given the flexibility of the tickets. Anywhere other than Australia.....

I know it's too late now but NYC when you can pick all their destinations?

    CUBA
    Shanghai
    HongKong
    Tokyo
    Cape Town
    Barbadao

Has your OH been to GLasgow? Could have gone there

I've been to all of those except Cuba (which doesn't do it for me) and only got back from Barbados in mid July, so this is one to use up a freebie without taking too much time and effort. NYC is about the only place on VS list that my OH hasn't been. We travel a lot, both AU cardholders so the miles stack up. Although this is a complete freebie (one of their Select Vouchers) for being bumped off an UC flight by 24 hours to BGI in June.

Thanks and there I was thinking you were telling me of a premium outlet in NYC!

I have been given some info on Woodbury, so looks interesting. Although the wife will try and shop 24/7 in NY an outlet may give us some breathing space (to and from it!).
