Birthday dinner - what's your perfect meal?

Hi All,

Need some help! It's my boyfriend's birthday Friday, we both have the day off. Was thinking of going for a meal but a) I like to cook and b) I know I can cook similar food at home for cheaper.

So now the decision of where to go has been made, my dilemma is what to cook. I'm thinking a three course meal, so given the choice what would your perfect birthday dinner be? Starter, mains and desserts, ideas for side etc all welcome

Thanks :)

    What a lovely thought :T

    For me it would be:

Starter: breaded mushrooms with garlic butter to dip them in
Main: t-bone steak - these are very yum, but hard to find - ask your butcher
Sides: Onion rings and chunky chips
Afters: cheese & biscuits, as I don't really have a sweet tooth

    Good luck

  • My perfect birthday dinner

Starter: Prawn cocktail (or other shellfish-based meal)
Main: Sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, mushrooms fried in butter, salad
    Dessert: Profiteroles & cream
    Drink: champagne

With the added bonus that none of it takes a massive amount of preparation.

    Yum!!:D

  • Thanks for the suggestions so far :) much appreciated.

It's always good to see what others deem their perfect meal as you will see things you wouldn't normally think of.

It wouldn't be my perfect meal in terms of food but my perfect birthday meal would be something that didn't take too much cooking during the meal itself because I hate sitting at a table by myself!

So I would say prawn cocktail or pate followed by something like a lasagne (which you can make more special by using steak if you wanted) with garlic bread and salad with eton mess for dessert.
  • I have a few fav dishes, but I would probably go for something along the lines of....

Starter: bruschetta / pesto / sundried tomato / brie - combination sorta thing

Main: huge sirloin steak with lashings of pepper sauce, heaps of red onions, and lovely creamy champ :D

Dessert: ummmmmmmm no idea! I'm not a dessert fan :o

    EDIT:
Banoffee pie - but I'd probably buy not make!!

Starter - Roasted garlic vine tomatoes with ciabatta and halloumi
Mains - Pasta dish either spag bol, lasagne or Jamie Oliver's Summer Lasagne (yum!) with homemade cheesey garlic bread
Dessert - Something with chocolate or raspberries (or both)

Nice white wine on the side

I can't actually eat three courses lol, but if I could it would be:

    Prawn cocktail

Probably steak and chips, or chicken and seafood cream tagliatelle yummy

    Chocolate cheesecake
