This homeowner certainly does care about others and sees her house as a home not a cash crop. It may surprise you to know that not everyone considers money the most important thing in life, even if the greedy do.
 Same here.
I want more young couples (and singletons) to be able to afford a modest home, like we did in 1976. Preferably on the equivalent of one f-t wage. Not priced out and have to live at home with their parents or pay some landlord's mortgage.
 I don't see why house prices rising is a good thing.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0

This is devastating news for us.. we're approx 12 months away from having our deposit and we have a potential private deal with the seller of a home in the pipeline.. if house prices rise too much in the next yr this will become unaffordable and we'll have to let the house go on the market. We could afford a small increase but not 4% plus. If only we had planned to buy slightly sooner... It's far from certain house prices will rise during the next year, anything could happen. Bear in mind that most places that make house price predictions are vested interests (for example Nationwide, Halifax etc) who only make predictions when the prediction is for prices to rise. When they think prices will fall they stop publishing predictions!0

There's nothing charitable about wanting to decide what happens to your OWN money whilst wanting to see other (rich) people have theirs forcibly taken from them & handed to HMRC.
It's very revealing that you talk about the "undeserving 1%" too. Why are they any more or less deserving than anyone else? You simply consider them undeserving because they have more than you.
Personally I don't have a problem with rich people, good luck to them. As a group they cause me remarkably little stress, they pay their own way, the majority of them contribute large amounts of tax to the exchequer to the benefit of all. To paraphrase Chris Rock, "when I go to the money machine at night, I ain't looking over my shoulder for rich people".
I don't think offspring whether they be rich or poor deserve to be handed lots of free money..... why you're arguing this point is beyond me as you've already stated you come from a family of paupers and won't be affected in any way.....;)
P.S Americans get taxed on lottery wins, Id like to see the same in this country0

Interesting. So you're saying you only care about those topics that have direct bearing on your own circumstances.0

TBH until you've given away £270K of your own money your opinion on the subject isn't worth much. Anyone can say how easy it would be for someone ELSE to give up a chunk of their wealth.Interesting. So you're saying you only care about those topics that have direct bearing on your own circumstances.
Hmmmm seems like someone is contradicting themselves....:D
I should care about circumstances that don't affect me, yet my opinion isnt vaild as I might not be giving £270k to the government. So do I need to care or not?0

            Bottom line.
Homeowners want their houses to rise.
It's great news for us. We don't really care about anyone else.
 It's all about the money.
 .
I don't. Personally I'd be happy if prices crashed to a level of 1998 when I bought my house.
I know it won't happen, but I could then afford to buy the house I was brought up in, or one similar.
And a certain smug 'freind' who has remortaged his large house numerous times and used the cash to fund a less than frugal life, (whilst pretending to be loadsamoney) would be seriously in the crap and I would laugh :rotfl:0

Most sensible people have an opinion on matters that affect them or not. If you're opinion is that you should be able to do whatever you want with your money, but that rich people should be forced to give theirs away, then yours would be an opinion that's not worth much. :beer:0

Thanks for telling me what my opinion is, miles out though im afraid.:rotfl:Most sensible people have an opinion on matters that affect them or not. I think everyone rich or poor should give charitably upon their death.
I've bolded that for you because it's not the first time I've posted it.
Sadly not all people do this, luckily you're not likely to "inherit" this problem. 0 0
