Immense excitement on the old Tabloid at Ten right now.
Good news for the economy, house prices highest rise for years.
News item: (this seems a bit negative)
A large rather sweaty looking man called Simon Peevers is priced out. He can't afford one and complains he is getting old. I missed what his story is. He is wearing a suit and though so seems a decent chap and shouldn't have to be renting. He might be just like us.
News item: (this is more lie it)
Some estate agent with a fat tie knot has been in negative equity in Leicester, he is delighted that this will mean he can upsize finally to a place with more room for his family and tie storage. He is rejoicing!
News Item:
4.1% rise in train fares. Home buyers furious at the cost to get from their homes to work and back to their homes.

Well Mrs Toast wants to watch Big Brother so I won't know if there are any more updates. Nevertheless, house prices even higher than before.
Soon no first time buyer will be able to afford one.

It's a good point though. On the BBC at the moment they have the 2 news items about house prices and train fares with one right under the other.
The train fare one is awful news. It's now going to cost someone paying £150 a month £6 more a month.
However, it's brilliant news that it now costs around £800 more as each month passes to buy a house. No one dare mention the extra stamp duty though. It's kind of a taboo subject. House prices increase 800 quid a month is just fantastic, but the stamp duty increase of £50 associated with it....a taboo which no one can speak of, as that's obviously terrible but a result of such rejoice.
On the other hand, it's absolutely terrible that the cost of filling your petrol tank has gone up by 55p this month, of which something simply has to be done.0

You seem confused Graham. The reversal of the house price crash (as noted by MS-W on R4's Today this morning... I didn't think she was still interested after the purchase of her luxury pad but apparently she's still on the lefty beeb's payroll so they can wheel her out when that nob from Priced Out is busy on BBC Breakfast, anyway we digress) is good because it saves the banking sector and thus the entire UK economy from complete collapse.
Rising cost of living on the other hand is somewhat less positive news.0

As someone who purchased their first home just under 2 yrs ago, this is fantastic news, I'll probably be pushed into a lower ltv category when i change mortgage deal next year. Lucky  me!0

I thought it was just the highest house price rise this year, which doesn't seem that big a deal to me.0

            Excellent news.
An ordinary young couple in their 20's, teacher and bank teller, buying a 3 bed house with a 5% deposit thanks to HTB.
 Massively good news.

Belief in myths allows the comfort of opinion without the discomfort of thought.”
