Because "Unlimited" sounds better than "3,000"

Would you rather buy an "Unlimited minutes tariff" if you're a high user? Or a "3,000" minutes tariff? Bear in mind the average consumer won't know that unlimited and 3000 is the same in this case.

actually it might not be the same.

Unlimited with a FUP of 3000 could be different to a straight 3000 limit.
It depends how they enforce the FUP.

I had an old vodafone contract that had unlimited data with a FUP. I could go over the limit without being charged extra. Whereas now i have a fixed data limit, if i go over it, i get charged for what ever i go over

Interesting points..Are T mobile the same?Or when they say unlimited do they mean unlimited?

T-Mobile is unlimited but they do enforce some limits. Take a look at the thread I posted above mate. Like I said, everything is in that thread.

Unlimited it's NEVER unlimited..( make sure you read the small print).. i'm on a unlimited text plan right now but unlimited to them was (5000 texts)

Unlimited as has been said is rarely unlimited. T-mobile might give you unlimited texts but if you text over 200 people per month (quite unlikely, I believe) then it wouldn't suit you.

I just switched from T-mobile's Full Monty plan to Three's One Plan (both one month rolling, I bought a Lumia 920 outright last year).

I can assure you the 3 internet is totally unlimited as I used 92gb of it last month lol. The prices have also dropped at Three, 2000 minutes 5000 texts and unlimited data is now £15/month for 12 months or £18/month on one month rolling

My teenage son managed to use over 3000 texts one month. I sure did get a big surprise when that month's bill was just over £90. I too also thought unlimited really did mean unlimited, I certainly learnt a lesson about reading small print.
