Virgin Media"Unlimited" is it really?

I am currently with "three" (sim only) my 12 months contract has ran out,Have iphone 5 which I bought outright.

Was wanting to sign up with "Virgin Media" sim only @ £15 per month where everything is unlimited, calls, texts,Internet.

Called three to give them 30 days notice who advised that "Virgin Media" are advertising unlimited as a marketing trick???

Advised even though they state everything's unlimited they have a fair usage in the terms and conditions/small print?

apparently unlimited minutes means 1500 minutes fair usage?,Internet has so many GB allowance??same with text messages?

Called "Virgin Media" who advised and guaranteed unlimited means unlimited etc?

Carried out a search on google, see others have wrote into "Virgin Media" forums complaining, alleging its a con?due to the small print?

Any help/advice would be appreciated regarding this matter..

    Unlimited data is 3.5GB
Speeds are capped to 384kbps once you exceed the data cap.

Unlimited mins/texts is up to virgin. There is an excessive use policy in place. Basically the number is around ~3000

I see I'm disappointed to find Virgin advisor assuring me unlimited means unlimited?Despites asking her to confirm this on several occasions and for her to double check the small print?

Unsure what to do now as I'm looking to pay around £15 per month and have everything unlimited? Is this possible with all the clever marketing tricks used??

Does anyone really exceed 3000 texts? I have a SIM only contract with Virgin. On taking it out, I only checked the number of phone minutes and the internet allowance. I knew that I would be nowhere near the text limit.

afaik, technically, the data is still unlimited, as after you reach the cap you can still use data, just at a slower rate

I see,in all fairness I would not use anywhere near the fair usage but I really liked the idea of everything unlimited as per advertised knowing not to expect unexpected crazy bills coming through? Not sure what to do?Also with virgin they don't allow tethering, good thing with virgin is its month to month no tied down contract..

Fact is the Unlimited does not mean the same as the dictionary when applied by ISPs or Networks .

  • I still can't believe they get away with blatantly misleading advertising (they aren't the only ones of course).

It is the Advertisibg Standards Authority that sanction 'unlimited' claims as being OK when a FUP applies - however the only saving grace is that the advertiser as to prove the bulk of their customers < 95% will not reach it.

The ASA is the same bunch who allow advertisers to claim 'VAT Free' in promotions when they actually mean '20% discount'. VAT is always charged - even on the reduced amount - so it is a nonsensical claim, and Unlimited simply joins the list of 'don't believe what we say'.

Still unsure what all this jargon really means? why can't they advertise exactly what they mean?Simpler for the customer,Simpler for everyone?
