What is the name of the website?

Normally there are warnings on the homepage that they are not the official DVLA page and all you are paying for is a checking service. There are similar sites for passport applications.

It is unlikely you will get your money back, however there is no harm in asking.

    In a word NO.

Your only hope is to go back to the company and ask for a refund.

In future when searching on google....

These sites always have something like this on them...
Neither CVL nor https://www.drivinglicence.uk.com are affiliated or associated with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA), any official government entities or any official body, trade or organisation. Applications for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) services may be submitted directly through the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) website http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla where there may or may not be a charge.

I agree, I am amazed at how many people start threads on here because they go to the first link in google. i think the the prime example and most common one is the EHIC (European Health Insurance Card‎)as the 3 top ones are ads where then charge, but directly below then shows the NHS one which says apply for a FREE Ehic card
  • It's verging on a scam but generally legal.

You can try the merchant for a refund or your card issuer for a chargeback but both are fairly likely to say no.

For anything governmental you should expect the site to have a .gov.uk (or .nhs.uk for EHIC) domain extension. Anything else is likely to be a company hoping you confuse them for the genuine article

The are legal as they are just paid google for the ads spots and will say they are not the official site or affiliated to the site. you are paying them to do the work on your behalf

(i.e. EHIC i think that first one charges £24, you giove them your details and they will then go onto the NHS site and complete your details so the NHS will send you the card direct) Not a scam or illegal as even the NHS site says you may go on other sites and be charged.

my brother got caught out by paying for his EHIC card ( NUMPTY)

    Probably means www.drivinglicence.uk.com.

Its the first Ad that pops up when you Google 'Driving Licence'.

yes and then whats the first thing that hits you on that page
    • Apply for, renew or change your driving licence online, safely and securely. Our online service provides a complete checking service and this service will fill out the form on your behalf and send it to you.
    • We are not affiliated with DVLA, the UK government or any official body. The checking service we provide can be obtained from a DVLA office directly at a reduced fee or you can apply without a checking service where there will be no checking fee payable.

so it is 100% clear they are not the official site
