    ok - today in Barneyworld!
I retired to bed last night with a good book - managed a few pages then realised I was nodding off............so glasses off, rearrange pillows and light out - and so was I! woke up about 7.30 and felt 'great'. or rather as 'great' as I can feel these days! creaked out of bed and came down for morning tea and ciggy. (yes I know, bad habit etc.........).
left Barnes still deeply asleep on HIS pillow on my bed. two hours later he puts in an appearance for his breakfast - which has been waiting for him for two hours (its what I do while I wait for kettle to boil. dispose of any overnight food and put fresh food and water down).
Good Grief - he looks like he had a rough night! his fur is all over the place! rofl. I suspect he has rolled about on his pillow and the satin pillowcase has caused static on his fur! its sticking out like he has been 'electrified'!!!!!!!! at least I started today with a laugh!

OH still snoozing so played with new designs for rubber band bracelets - I tell myself its to teach the grandkids - but I am loving this new craze! its soooooooooooo much fun to do!
Barnes likes it too - the bands come in such lovely crinkly packets! I empty one and he pounces on it and plays for a while.
OH gets up and wants to go out - I need to take an item back to the shop ............so we do that - but somehow it turns into a trip to B&Q - the most boring shop on earth................two hours later we return home. (there seems to be a two hour theme to today, everything happens in two hour increments)
I make lunch for OH, me and Barnes - and bu99er it! its the last little sheba sachet which is perfect for lunches! and I already told OH I didn't need to go up the shop!

groom and treats - he wasn't cooperative today! he obviously didn't feel like being groomed, just wanted the treats bit! looked him over as carefully as I could - yep, healing scabs probably itching like hell. OK - did a catnip infusion for later.
his missus - Barnes did the 'Oh dear, its raining out the back - is it sunny out front bit'? and no it wasn't sunny. he did try going out - but it was driving rain in a gale force wind and he didn't like it one bit! mad dash back indoors!
he has since resigned himself to napping the day away! apart from a game of pingponguppastairs and 'wheresthesqueekymouse'!
I also ran out of his dry food, so bought a packet of 'Brekkies' hoping he would at least eat some if hungry - rofl. He LOVES it! wolfed it down! and is ignoring his favourite sachet in favour of the brekkies!
he is now watching TV with OH. on his pile of cushions.

The brekkies were bought in a new 'pound' shop which has opened near us. bizarrely in a way as nearly all pound shops are on the high street and this is on a main road in a residential area and while there are only two other shops in a mile from them.

Sunday - day of rest...........not in chez meritaten! started off - I woke at 7.00 to find Barnes pulling my band off my ponytail! and curled up next to me on my pillow. realising I was annoyed he tried 'kissing' me - yeeeeuuuuch! his chin was full of water!
putting Barnes in his place (his pillow at end of bed) I try to doze a bit - oh no, Barnes is having none of it! he insists on sharing my pillow - giving occasional kisses - and tries to groom my eyebrows into shape! jeeeeez!
I give in - go downstairs.
    give Barnes his breakfast.
he gobbles it and disappears upstairs to catch up on HIS sleep!
    PEACE!
I leave tv and radio off and choose to read a book.
OH gets up and for some reason decides the walls need washing down...........I don't mind him washing the painted walls down with 'all purpose cleaner' - but, it isn't supposed to be used on wallpapered walls is it? oh well, let him get on with it - if the wallpaper peels off then I get the living room redecorated!
    Barnes still napping.
then its groom and treats time - got purrs again!
and he attempts to go out - but its piddling down and the wind is blowing - he lasts five minutes and wants 'In' again.
grandgirls come down for lunch and one of them asks if she can give Barnes some treats.....................tell you more later.
lunch over and we go up 'grans'.
get home and ...................I go upstairs and Barnes Dreamies packet is in the spare room - and it was full this morning and now is half empty, and OH is complaining he has found Webbox stick packets all over the place!!!!!!!!!!!!! no bluddy wonder he hasn't wanted his supper! lol - no matter - he isn't overweight so one day of pigging out isn't going to hurt him!

Hi oldestgnome! thanks for reading! and everyone else! I am very conscious that people 'tune in' every day for their Barnes 'fix'! so here is todays 'adventures' in Barnesworld.

He must do it deliberately! go have a drink of water, get a chinful and come up and give me 'kisses'! I woke up a bit early and was lying there thinking how peaceful it was and just sort of 'not dozing - but drifting comfortably', when I became aware of someone creeping upstairs.....couldn't be OH - lol, he doesn't DO creeping! besides he had just gone to work. listened and Barnes came in the bedroom very very quietly. he didn't jump on the bed as much as 'slunk' onto it. I just lay there, regulating my breathing and wondered what he will do next. he paused, then crept along the edge of the bed and went for my ponytail band again! and I turned my head and said 'Boo'! jeeeeeeez! startled the hel out of him and he shot off the bed and down the stairs! rofl - oh I am a BAD cat mummy!
I got dirty looks when I came down for my cuppa and ciggy! and I was still giggling. gave him a couple of dreamies (unheard of for him to have 'treats' before grooming) - so he mellowed a bit.
he was unusually playful this morning - he dug out the PAH Kickthingy and finally bit and kicked the stuffing out of it! Literally! it was all over the living room carpet! so that got binned. (must get him another one next food shop - he seems to use it as a punching bag - gets all his frustrations out on it!).
his skin is healing nicely - catnip infusion seems very soothing and its stopped him scratching now. but a nice back scratch from me went down well!
I am sure it was a while since I did his worming tablets and I THOUGHT I had put it on calendar - but it isn't there. arrrrrgh - will have to go back through this thread as I probably put it on here. I think he needs roundworm tabs - but cant remember exactly when he had last lot.
for some reason he is ignoring his 'open' litter tray and using the 'covered' one for both pees and poos............??????????????????
    what's with that?
the bath booby trap is holding up!!!!!!!!!!! my heart sinks though at the realisation that my bath/shower is ALWAYS going to have the booby trap around it - if six months isn't enough to break the habit.........its never going to happen is it?

    Hi meri,

My four got another dose of flea tablets yesterday after Hubby found another flea on him. Maybe I should give him a tablet too...he claims the flea jumped off Scrappy onto him but I'm beginning to wonder :D. They're all getting a spot on tonight, possibly even Hubby :rotfl:

It is strange how Barnes felt the urge to use the bath again after such a long time. Perhaps he wanted some privacy especially if he's started using the covered litter tray. Mine do seem to prefer the hooded tray and it certainly means less litter kicked all over the place.

Well, barnes kicks the litter out of the open flap area (he didn't like the flap in place so I had to remove it). I actually keep a dustpan and brush IN the bathroom! there is nothing worse than stepping on scattered litter in your bare feet!

its been really quite nice this afternoon - sun shining, temp climbing and Barnes was able to go in and out the garden at his pleasure! as it was warm enough to keep the French doors open. I still keep an eye on him though.

Its Tuesday so its 'Grandgirls after school day'. only had the twins today as the little one wanted some time on her own with mummy and daddy.
Barnes did something he hadn't done before - he invited them to play with him by fishing out a toy and looking expectantly at them while patting it about by his feet. so the played 'squeekymouse' with him - then he got fed dreamies, and later they went outside and played with him in the garden. apparently he likes 'chasing' stones. or rather the kids were chucking gravel about and he was pouncing on it! then they started throwing it in the birds water tray - he was watching that intently and he didn't mind a few light splashes - but when one of them threw a larger stone and he got his face and front drenched he went indoors in disgust!
All in all he seems to have had a really nice day - and he enjoyed the girls visit enormously!

Barnes had another lovely day of wandering in and out of the house/garden. came back from taking GS2 to school and Barnes was waiting at the French doors to be let out! lol - no probs Barnes! I swear I can see a difference in him! he seems much happier, and 'healthier'! the fresh air is doing him good!
his appetite is improving too, but he doesn't like the 'hi-life' sachets. loves 'Brekkies' dry food though!
he is also more 'playful'. he got his 'squeekymouse' out of his toy basket and started playing with it on his own today!!!!!!!!!!!!! usually he expects ME to play games with him. He will be truly independent when he throws the ping pong balls 'uppastairs' himself!

spent some time in the garden with him - tossed a few gravel chunks around and he stared at me as if I had lost my mind!!!!!!!! yesterday he was pouncing on them when the grandgirls chucked them!
I have a small corkscrew hazel tree - he sat under it and seemed to be assessing it for climbability. be quick Barnes, its coming down as its roots are weakening the garden wall!
breaks my heart - I love that tree! all my bird feeders hang from it. and it provides nuts too! and shade for the plants under it. I have to find a shrub that will take its place without the invasive roots.
Barnes isn't interested in TV tonight - he has already retired to bedroom and is sparked out on his pillow!

I was poking about in the cupboard looking for Barnes's worming tabs today - and found a toy I had 'put aside' and forgotten about! a 'Kickeroo' toy! so he has a replacement for the kick toy he shredded! he got that after his groom and treats and he loved it! it has a crinkly layer and he really likes that! I keep finding it in different places as he has been picking it out of his toy basket and having a little 'fight' then leaving it on the floor! (how do you train a cat to put his toys away please?).
lol - I am really pleased that he is now so into playing he will get a toy out of his basket by himself. not wait for me to announce its 'playtime' and choose something for him. tho he WAS getting good at indicating what he wanted to play with sometimes.

he chased a wasp into the house this afternoon - lmao, he has learned that they sting so was taking tentative 'swipes' at it with his paw. that game lasted for a good ten minutes while the wasp got 'stuck' at the closed French door and Barnes was leaping up and down trying to get at it! I ended up opening the dam door and letting it out! he was getting on my nerves thumping against the glass!

arrrghh - OH went up for a shower and didn't set the booby trap properly.............with predictable results! surely the stupid man realises that a cat can get through a three inch gap? back to the drawing board - I will have to rethink this. I did think about a Perspex cover for the bath, but it has raised bits on the edge of the bath and its not even all the way round (not quite the shell effect opposite the taps - but it is uneven). So that's out!
its been really warm this afternoon - though it has clouded over a bit from about 4.00pm, and I have a headache - might mean a storm coming. wonder if Barnes likes a good thunderstorm? never bothered my previous pets.

Its GS2 day tomorrow - so must toddle off to bed early - its much easier to get up early when the sun is shining dontcha think?

Meri, when the sun is shining my cats ensure I get up early. They were using me as a trampoline this morning until I gave in and got up!
