07744 now charged :( orange update 8/6/07
Dear all,
I'm a heavy user of 07744 numbers and i've an orange contract. I nearly use it all to call internationally. Yesterday, orange changed the terms and conditions of their contracts.
here is the link
http://www1.orange.co.uk/termsupdate/#tempestpackages
or this
orange.co.uk/termsupdate
Now below is the current terms and conditions for 07744 numbers.
Calls to 07744 and 07755 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged at a flat rate of 20p/min. If you do not use your inclusive minute allocation for the month it will not rollover to the next month.
anyone have an idea about different numbers that can be used from the inclusive minutes. it seems to me that they stop these services in the summer and return it back again in November! the same thing happened with me last year when i was with o2 and when i left them they returned it back in november.
i don't know if orange is going to do the same this year but now i've 600 minutes of no use !!!!! any idea???

I am afraid there is no alternative at the moment. Some of the 07744 and 07755 providers are aware of the situation but no news what will be next step.
I have many contacts all around Europe and now my 500 mins/p/month is wasted as I have taken phone on contract in order to use it for that purpose.
I even consider cancelling my contract, as this is change of T & C, something that I would not agree if they had it in place when I signed the contract.
Shame on Orange but also all other providers…they just showing their attitude that they don’t care about customers but just about bigger profit.
Anyway, we’ll see what happens soon.0 -

yes i definitely wouldn't have agreed on such T&C if they had it when i signed the contract. It was the main reason why i changed from o2 to orange, just to call internationally. Now, I would like to cancel my contract. I pay 40 pounds/month and if i want to cancel it then i've to pay them 40*10 months left in the contract which is a great deal.
is there anyway around that??? like complaining that they changed the T&C and I don't agree then I can cancel without paying
if not then i'll think of suspending the number for few months and see what they have got to offer later. it's really useless to me without calling internationally. such a waste :mad:0 -

Apparently this is not the first time it happened. It did happen last year too, but then everything was back to normal soon as people started to cancel their contracts.
It is early to say now what will happen as they changed their T & C yesterday (I got txt about it at 7 PM , good thing I didn’t make any international call in the morning, I would have been charged without even knowing it!!)
Anyway, let’s keep an eye on this forum and search for latest updates, don’t think this will last forever.
You might be able to cancel but be aware that no matter how many times you call their Customer Service you will probably get different answers. I will try to get this sorted today and get rid of my mobile and get landline where I can still make cheap calls.
Unless they realize that in the consumers world the most important thing to survive is;
a customer.0 -
Is there any one here that can advise about this on a legal basis. I too took out an 18 month contract with orange for the main purpose of calling abroad. I have unlimited texts which I even talked to the Orange CS about how it would allow me to be in better contact with my daughter and also have used the "call through" numbers. My last bill showed that the texts are being charged at a premium, NOT something I was told or agreed to, and the imposition of the charge for call through numbers. Surely there MUST be a fight back position. How come companies can screw us and we have no recall? Help please from someone with Legal expertise, not just opinion (no offence meant
) so those of us affected might be able to fight back. Many thanks.:o 0 -
hmmm,i think i'll be ripped off as i made about an hour international calls yesterday

do you think if you cancel your contract because they changed T&C you would need to pay all the amount left in your contract? or you can just pay for this month only?0 -

All I can say, watch this space as I am also trying to find the way out of it.
It is only one days since T&C have been changed and it is weekend too, so I presume by next week there must be some better news.
I will try to talk to my friend lawyer who might be able to helo with legal advice, so as soon find out will post it here..
Thanks.0 -
great, cheers mate. will be watching as this is irritating me and ruining my weekend fun.
i don't know how do these companies work. don't they know that their first and only money source is customers!!!
customers customers customers customers customers customers customers customers customers customers customers customers .... how many times do we need to repeat that for them to understand !!!!0 -
and i just got two contracts with orange in the last couple of weeks specifically for this!!!
the top of the page also says:
In line with other operators, Orange have updated our terms and conditions for a number of our offers and promotions. Calls to 07744 and 07755 numbers are not included in bundle and will be charged at a flat rate of 20p/min0 -
yeah, this is not fun at all

we should find a solution to that problem. i do agree that we need a legal advise here.0 -
hey guys,
do you think if we all here, and some other people who we can gather, that are affected by providers change of T&C try and take the providers to court (as a one case), would that be something feasible?0
