Small (tiny) slow cooker - how do I use it????

Remember the free La Redoute crockpot? As New MSE'r, I sent for it coz it was a freebie - looked at it in complete bewilderment when it arrived, and stuck it in a cupboard.

Well I've been reading the slow cooker recipes and I'd like to have a go. So I've washed it down and set it up.... but it has no instructions and I am completely clueless!!!

It is only tiny compared to some - 2 pints filled to the brim. But there is only me (aaahhhh!!!) so it will do to start with. It has a dial on the front marked 1 to 4 which I am presuming is the temperature.

I don't work because I a disabled following a car accident and subsequently developed ME. Often, by the time I have cooked a meal, I am too exhausted to eat it, so this method of cooking sounds like it might be ideal for me.

So please, can someone give me an idiots guide to using this thing...

Thanks muchly

don't think I have even seen a slow cooker myself! But, try on the money saving old stylie board .... many MSE'ers there have seen one and a few of them have one .... I am sure they will be able to offer some tips. Does sound a perfect tool for you .... hope you get some good tips.

Stupid question I know, but does it just cook things slowly:confused: wouldn't it be cheaper (on the electric/gas) and quicker (i have no patience lol) to cook on a regular cooker?
I can say whatever I like here ... 'cos no one can see me .. ner ner ner ner ner !!!....

How do you know I ain't sitting here butt naked?!?!

I thunk I've made you think for a minute!

I'd start with some simple casserole mixes,
a couple of chicken breasts chopped some veg etc and a packet casserole mix,
bung it all in on number 2 first thing and leave it, it won't burn so after 5/6 hrs you could take a look/taste and see if it ready, there will be enough to freeze some too for a non cook day,
after a few tries you'll be ready to start adapting the recipes for your choice and probably making up your own icon10.gif

It might be a good idea to ask your question in the slow cooker recipe thread or another related thread where there will be plenty of slow cooker users.

Somewhere like here or here but not both because you're only supposed to post the same question in one thread at a time. (You could edit your post up there ^ to say something like "I've moved this post :)" )

It cooks slowly yes, and typically, on a low setting only uses as much power as a light bulb.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I suffer from Chronic Fatigue and find my slow cookers (yes I have 2! one for dessert :) ) are invaluable as I can prepare a meal when I have the energy and don't have to stand over it. You can take your rest breaks and your dinner won't burn. Check out the slow cooker recipe thread I got loads of great ideas from there.

Once you start cooking this way you will be hooked!
