Third time round for me as she is my youngest but there have been some very interesting ideas on this thread that I hadn't thought of before.
First and only time for me. Now it feels real so I better get proper shopping.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

I met quite a few boys (friends and a couple of boyfriends) while at uni who openly admitted to only changing their bed ONCE A TERM  and that was at the end of the term to take the sheets home to their mam. As a once a week girl I found this absolutely grim!!
Many many moons ago when I was at college there was a boy who wore the same pair of jeans every day for the three years we were there. The only time they were washed was when his Mum prised them off him when he went home. As he was one of the few students who lived in a student house (most commuted) that wasn't very often. Rumour had it he wore them at night as well.:eek:0 -
One tip given to my daughter was not to take white underwear - you think you're going to be good & separate your washing, and you do for a while, and then after a bit everything gets thrown in together - and turns out grey!
One of mine found a small travel hanger (from £land) with clips on useful for washing smalls & leaving in the shower to dry.
A small plastic plant spray is useful as they can spray clothes with water the night before and the creases mostly drop out by morning - especially if only one iron in the flat & someone is hogging that.
Find out what coins their launderette machines take & give them a bag of them to take, at least for the first wash so they don't feel embarassed if they haven't got the right change.
Mine took their own tea-towels (another tip passed on) & they were so grateful they did because they saw others use tea-towels as floor cloths after spilling something.
An air freshener can be useful, especially if they're in shared accommodation, for the bathroom.
And for girls, in particular, a hot water bottle for that time of month.0 -

That's horrific. I remember hearing a discussion on the uni bus between two girls once about how if you don't wash your jeans eventually they just clean themselves like your hair...0 -

just remembered - might be worthwhile holding off buying any bedding until you know which accommodation they'll have. We assumed all beds would be single & discovered some were a small double.0
