Pick up new car Wednesday insurance Quandary?

In theory you cannot have any overlap between the two policies because NCD can only be used on one policy at a time. Now if eSure is going to have any issues of a couple of hours overlap is another matter.
Presumably you have had a quote from DL to do a change of vehicle and switch the insurance to the new car?
You will get 7 days free insurance from the vendor of the car. Get that to get the car road legal. Cancel the existing policy as soon as you've traded it in to remove your RTA liability. Then set up the new policy in the window provided by the 7 days free insurance.0 -

If to get road tax then supplying evidence on the day its beig collected isn't going to be very useful is it. They should get tax before the day of collection and be covered under their own policy!
People keep saying dealers have a legal duty to check this... I'm not sure if this is true or not but a dealer has never checked mine... So maybe somebody can substantiate this?
You generally give them the cover note/certificate the day before, that's how I've always done it anyway, these days you can ask your insurers to fax a copy direct to the dealer. Dealers are not allowed to allow cars on the road that are not taxed and insured, why else would they need to ask for it, there's nothing in it for them, I'm sure it would be a lot easier for them if they left it up to the buyer to sort the VED etc out. If the dealer has not checked you insurance, how have they taxed the car?I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

The new system brought in by the DVLA in July means dealers no longer tax new cars, they supply your details, insurance etc to the DVLA and you get a receipt which you can display until the disk comes through the post.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -

The system changed in July, now the licence is sent by post from the DVLA.0 -

Is this universal or just a different option? A colleague bought a new bike and collected it on the 27th July and complained that when it was delivered it only had 11 and a bit months on the disk but the dealer had added the cost of a 12 month disk on it (ie he had lost the part of July)0 -

Well, if you arrange to collect a vehicle so close to the end of the month, that's what happens, he should have asked to collect the bike on the 1st of August, he would then get a full 12 months because they would arrange the tax for August.I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world0 -
Dealers no longer tax cars you now get it sent direct from the DVLAI can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.0 -
Sounds like the dealer taxed your mates bike before the change coming into force. Btw, there's nothing to stop the Dvla sending the tax disc direct to the dealer on your behalf.
Dont know, he ordered it on the 12th July, it was landed in the UK around the 23rd July and he collected it on the 27th and then complained on the 29th that it was only taxed until the end of Jun 2014.0
