Holiday with friends who have had a marriage break up

Hi all

the in-laws have booked a holiday with friends on a cruise.

Unfortunately their friends have now split up and are going through a divorce.

All the holiday has been paid for by all parties in full.

My in laws are the lead bookers.

Their friends husband changed details of the holiday to include his new girlfriend and remove his ex wife without the permission of my father in law who is the only one who is able to change the booking supposedly.

The holiday company and ex wifes solicitors had been informed and this was rectified and changed back to original booking.

The ex husband is now upset and threatening an injunction to stop all people going on the holiday.

They are due to travel in 2 weeks.

Will he be able to have an injunction installed or is he blowing hot air??

Any other advice also appreciated.

P.s. we have contacted the travel company and they are unable to help. And we will be contacting solicitors in the morning to seek further advice.

Again any help appreciated.

The ex-husband sounds like a peach!

I'm not sure he could get an injunction to stop a holiday but someone else may be able to help with that.

    Happy moneysaving all.

Your in-laws have no problems..As for the other couple They could both go which would be fun but it will be a case of who blinks first.
Someone needs to claim on their insurance..
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

You can't claim on insurance for disinclination to travel.

OP, I doubt he could get an injunction to stop the other three people going on a holiday they have paid for, can your parents and his ex club together to give him his share of the money back just to be rid of him?

Also, your FIL should be making a complaint to the travel agent who let the other man make changes to the holiday in the first place, if they were doing their job properly things wouldn't have got this far.

It seems clear that the divorcing couple would not enjoy going on holiday together, and would probably ruin it for everyone else. The sensible solution would have been to change the names to bring along a new partner, while compensating the left-out old partner in some suitable way. The ex-husband obviously should have discussed this with the 'lead passenger' and it is surprising that he was able to go make the change without doing so.

Anyway, by this stage things are clearly so heated that the holiday is unlikely to be enjoyed by anyone. No: I cannot imagine that the ex-husband can obtain an injunction nor do anything using the law, but agreeing to his request would have been the sensible thing to do.

  • Unless you are the dumped party not happy having your holiday whipped out from under you with no consultation so your ex can take his new floozy along instead. Not an enviable position to be in if you're the person who booked the cruise for everyone. I'd be wanting to leave this couple to sort it out between themselves.
