Item from Hong Kong?

I am wanting to buy an item and to buy it from the usual places cost from £30 - £50, including most sellers on Ebay and Amazon.

Then I found the item on Ebay from a Hong Kong seller for £14 postage paid.

Would you risk buying it?

And if it turned out to be a counterfeit what would you do?

I will of course be paying with paypal.

In my experience everything sold from HK is counterfeit. I would not risk buying it if you really want to genuine one.

If it is something that you can live with being counterfeit and you like the price then go fo it.

I've been to HK loads of times and my OH at the time asked a Chinese person where they could buy genuine PS2 games, they just looked at him blankly, they'd never heard of such a thing!!!

Not everything from HK is counterfeit. However a lot of it is, especially electronic items, and definite the ones sold at a small fraction of the normal price.
Personally, I probably wouldn't buy this item.

The rule of thumb for the internet is that if it seems to good to be true, it probably is!

Very pleased to hear that. Not sure how that statement helps the OP.

Some stuff is worth buying from Hong Kong. I buy all my cables from Hong Kong and you can get a cable that costs £10 over here for £2 delivered. They work and fine and to be honest most of the UK Ebay sellers sell exactly the same item but for much more.
However I brought an unbranded phone charger from Hong Kong which seemed fine at first and then started sparking which went in the bin. I also brought a multimedia player that looked a lot like an Ipod Touch and was unbranded but apart from having a less sensitive touch screen it worked fine and only cost £20. After about three months of daily usage it died though.

I guess the moral of the story is if you are buying from Hong Kong if it can go wrong then it probably will. However a lot of stuff you buy from Hong Kong on Ebay there are plenty of UK sellers selling exactly the same item.

Something that costs more than a couple of quid I probably wouldn't risk buying from Hong Kong. Just make sure you don't buy the same item from a UK seller.

I suspect it was to illustrate that some fakes may be OK.

It really all depends on what the item is and if you'd be OK knowing its probably fake, that said if its anything electrical from a charger to a Nintendo D's and all inbetween you should avoid, there's some horrible stories of people using fake electrical stuff and dying ( sad but true)
Chances are I'm in this thread asking questions as I love to learn new stuff. (Did you know all polar bears are left handed?)
