Ask around if anyone has a Halfords Trade Card. £60 becomes £30.. :)

As it seems to be coping with short journeys better it might not be the battery, it could be a temperature issue especially as you say the engine warning light is on. Then it could be battery, alternator or even a loose connection.

Take it to a garage tomorrow to be looked at, really you need someone to fit the battery for you as removing the battery can cause problems with the computer that can be a bit tricky to resolve. Plus you can then get your wiper sorted.

No you can't claim squat from him, it's a battery, it's like a tyre blowing on the way back. Consumable.

Where did i try to diagnose a fault? My advice was offered based on the presumption that the battery needs replacing. You have ZERO comeback on a dealer for a battery that doesn't work. Now either respond without being a nob or don't respond at all you clown.

    Are you sure about that.

If the battery was knackered when purchased there is comeback

But on reading the language you use, hope you are not still in sales

Sold as seen is valid as long as it's in roadworthy condition.

Batteries are notoriously difficult to prove as faulty. It started and he was able to drive it away. I've seen batteries fail to start a car after 200 miles when the car's been off for 5 mins while i've gone into a service station for the toilet. Good luck proving that one.

There is no mechanical or dangerous fault and without a warranty you're never getting a dealer to replace a battery.

Car auctions are sold as seen and they're sold by dealers. You really think you can go back to the auction if it conks out on the way home? LOL no. If the breaks fail or the steering column falls out then maybe it's a different story.
