I'm soooooooooooooo waiting to understand what you think is not acceptable about not understanding an accent?
Please ?
She didn't say she didn't understand his accent. She said "The guy I was talking to was not English, so I am not quite sure if he even registered how dire the situation was".
Big difference.
If the OP had said she struggled to understand his accent I doubt anyone would have commented.0 -
Crisis Loans have been scrapped. They have been replaced by support from local Councils in the form of Crisis Grants or Community Care Grants. You are automatically excluded from receiving a Crisis Grant as they won't "undermine a decision made by the DWP". You can apply for JSA hardship payments.
How will you make the repayments on the loan for the next 2 months? Not a good idea.
If you are really desperate there are food banks too.0 -
Why not start ringing round Industrial cleaning companies on your city, they often need staff for a few hours a day? Maybe, if your good at DIY a lot of property maintenance companies take on short term contracts at this time of year to renovate student properties. If you have a football or rugby team nearby see if they need stewards? You can't rely on the Jobcentre any more for a steady incomeThe World come on.....0

Isn't anyone else angered that a fellow citizen can have their JSA payments stopped for three months for failing to attend an appointment that s/he didn't receive notification of?0

Each local authority has their own scheme, most are called the Local Assistance Scheme and whilst I cannot comment on the OP's local authority my one will make an award if there is urgent need, it would not matter that it was a sanction that caused the need as the DWP and the local authority assistance is completely unrelated.0 -

Sorry, but "didn't get the letter" is just the oldest excuse in the book, so no, I'm not angered.0 -
Typical Britain of today, one person innocently mentions race, accent and the country someone was born in and they are immediately jumped all over as if they were members of the BNP. Morons0

You might want to look into equality and diversity training.
I've lived in the UK since I was in Primary School, and having grown up in (what was then) the small Soviet community in London, I don't actually sound that English, especially bearing in mind I studied at a private international school, where there were a number of Russian speakers, and also students from my own country.joeblack066 wrote: »Sorry, but "didn't get the letter" is just the oldest excuse in the book, so no, I'm not angered.
I'm the same here.
OP should have known an appointment was due at that time, so should have checked IMO.

I think you'll find she didn't mention race, accent or the country someone was born in. Not until she was pulled up about it anyway. She assumed the guy wasn't English because she couldn't understand him. That's ignorant.
I didn't suggest she's racist, I just pointed out that you can't jump to conclusions about someone's nationality based on their accent.
Perhaps you should read the posts properly before calling people a moron.0 -
Try your local Credit Union cos everywhere else will rip you off and they take payments off before you get your cash so you never miss a payment and some of dividend is put in a saving account so you build up a sum of cash too so its a win win scenerio, i think max you can get is £250 and pay back a small interest of £60
