yes watched it earlier about gym going not helping with weight loss unless you do 5 hrs. plus exercise a week. also that diet pills don't work and are dangerous. all stuff we all know but nice to have it confirmed.
just goes to show that to be healthy we need to exercise and eat well.0 -
I've just been looking up aspartame. Although it's an artificial sweetener which you would think would help in weight loss, in fact one of its side-effects is - weight gain.
So, I'm chucking out Robinson's sugar-free fruit cordials, and also Canderel powdered sweeteners. We'd be better to use a little bit of ordinary sugar!! Just goes to show how the 'weight loss industry' misleads us all.
About the programme on gyms etc, I was interested to see where the LA Fitness chain originated. That's where I go to do aqua-aerobics. Jumping around in the pool 3 x weekly may burn me 350 calories a time, but the main effects are improved mobility, strengthened muscles, and improved cardiovascular function. All good news.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Rose's lime juice cordial is lovely. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Rose's lime juice cordial is lovely.
Thank you for this. I'll try it.
PS: Just looked it up on Wikipedia, and here's what they say:
"
In the United Kingdom, Rose's Lime Juice Cordial is manufactured and distributed by Coca-Cola Enterprises Ltd. The ingredients in the modern product (USA) listed in order of concentration are: water, high fructose corn syrup, lime juice concentrate, sodium metabisulfite (preservative), natural flavors,"]
High fructose corn syrup is another no-no!

High fructose corn syrup is another no-no!I like to give people as many choices as possible to do what I want them to. (Milton H Erickson I think)0 -
Did I imagine watching on this show or one of the other episodes about the changes to female body shape since the 50s? I am sure I saw something about waist size increasing and hip size decreasing, and part of that was due to changes in diets. I was half watching it at the time, but wanted to re-watch it and explore in more detail exactly which changes might be responsible - but now I cant find the clip .0

Sorry, I hadn't looked at the ingredients. I just knew that it had sugar in it. To be honest it doesn't taste very sweet but I don't want to lead anyone astray. I didn't realise it was made by Coca Cola. Maybe there is a healthier alternative. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Mr_helpful wrote: »Yes High Fructose corn syrup is a no no but people on fad diets are not given correct nutrition information. Another increasing one to look out for is glucose fructose syrup. That is good old sugar syrup as sugar (sucrose ( is one molecule glucose foined to one molecule fructose.

I hope you are not referring to me. I am not on a fad diet; I just bought it because I like the taste. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
I've just looked up the ingredients on my bottle of Rose's Lime Cordial and they are as follows:
Lime juice from concentrate
Sugar
Citric Acid
Flavourings
Preservative as stated in previous post
Colour Beta Carotene 142
No mention of high fructose corn syrup on the label so unless you look it up. I wonder how many other sugary squashes carry this ingredient?
I tend to drink it very dilute anyway. The forest would be very silent if no birds sang except for the birds that sang the best0 -
Mr_helpful wrote: »The problem is with focusing on calories in vs calories out. There are several flaws with this. Firstly just because you put 2000 cals in doesnt mean they are all going to be absorbed into the body. many factors affect absorbtion. the next problem is that foods take varying amounts of calories to process. just as an example 200 cals of glucose is going to act differently in the body to 200 cals of sucrose or 200 cals of baked beans or 200 cals from corn on the cob.
Then we have temperature. the body uses most of its cals keeping you at the right temp. fat is an insulator and will get used when body decides it wants to slow metabolism and keep warm at the same time.
The reasons for natural weight gain (as opposed to gain from medivation) is in the brain. If you give you brain any reason to save calories then it will and it will crave calorie rich foods. (often the same foods that have little nutritional value) This means that you are now at war with unconscious processes in your brain and that also means the odds are on you losing long tem.
The sensible way to lose weight long term is to get rid of the reasons you body wants to be fat and then feed it all the nutrients it needs. Once you get in this state losing fat is easy.
Diets like fasting 5 :2 waffle on about hormonal changes without realising these changes are far easier to create just from 10 minutes simple visualisation.. The lowering of insulin takes place naturally overnight if you dont fill yourself with carbs before you go to sleep
I dont think any one will deny you can lose weight by restricting cals to less than you use but how do you know what your body is going to use in a day? Your brain will quite happily make you lethargic and slow up metabolism if it doesnt want you to lose fat.
I am still waiting to see your picture to show us lesser mortals what sort of results you can expect if we follow your advice and not what we are doing and succeeding at.The truth may be out there, but the lies are inside your head. Terry Pratchett
