My daughter stills remembers the 2 women who wore black to her wedding, she married 26 years ago. She was very disappointed. She does not remember what anybody else wore, so you decide.

    Goodness, how strange!!;)

I've seen bigger women look absolutely stunning, don't write yourself off!

I wore a size 14 dress to the last wedding I went to, and I looked pretty darn good if I do say so myself! :rotfl:

I bet we can help you find something you'll feel nice in, there's far more out there in bigger sizes than there used to be, and there are things like Spanx which are miraculous!

If you have a waistline, flaunt it with figure skimming dresses in gentle patterns of any colour. I am size 16 but didn't hide behind black. My daughter requested that guests didn't wear black after she attended a wedding that was full of funereal black dresses. She thought it morbid and wanted her wedding to be cheerful.

We always think people are looking at us, and as a consequence, we stress about how we look to others..

But fact, they are too caught up in how THEY look to be even bothered how WE look!

    That is a fact.

So I wear what I feel nice and comfortable in. On all occasions. Don't give a fig about colours or fashion, but I do try to look ok for me.

Life is short, and everyone is worried about their own heels, dress, jewellery and so on, to be bothered by anyone else.

    It's a big lesson.
  • Of course you can. Black is my favourite colour and I have worn black to several weddings. When my young sister got married 20+ years ago, my Mum wore a gorgeous little black dress and hat and nobody commented about the mother of the bride. In USA a few years ago we happened to be passing a church as the wedding party came out - the bridesmaids wore gorgeous black dresses.

Everyones definition of bigger will be different, to me size 14, which is the size Im most comfortable at isnt big, some people will think it is

I dont hide behind or wear black because Im not thin, I wear a black dress because I like it

But if someone invited me to a wedding and said please dont wear black then Id wear something else, if they were ok with me wearing a black dress then I would.

People can look good and awful in every single colour under the sun, its not just about colour, its about what you are wearing and how you wear it and that doesnt mean how expensive something is either.

Wear something that suits you, something you are comfortable in and yes if necessary something that wont upset the bride 30 years on.

My mates dress at her own wedding a couple of yrs ago was mainly white with black lace in places, her two bridesmaids were in black dresses with white sashes.

I went to a wedding in Washington in the 1990s (at church next to the National Cathedral). I think there was a fashion at the time for black and white weddings - guests were also meant to wear just black and white.
