Sticky pad has ruined dashboard
Comments

If this has happened recently I would say it's more likely that the dashboard protective layer melted slightly in the heat and got stuck to the glue rather than the glue being so strong it peeled the dashboard. Or it could equally be a fault with the dashboard itself, has anything else ever been stuck to it to know if it would peel with any sticky surface?
This. These anti slip mats tend to have a coating of 'gloop' to stick them in place. As for the damage, you should always test the product on an unseen area.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

The one I have has no coating at all.
In fact it needs to be washed to make it sticky again if it loses its adhesive properties.
I have used it on the dashboard of two different cars, with no ill effects to either.
I think that the reality of this situation is that the OP or their son made the decision to buy and use a third party product in a vehicle for 99p and will have to live with the consequences.0 -

You seem to be suggesting that because they bought the product for 99p, they have no rights when it causes damage. How do you come to that conclusion?0 -
It sounds to me like a case of 2 normally inert plastics reacting with each other.
As a doll collector, I see it quite often- hard plastics (like a dashboard, or doll face) and soft plastics (non-slip mats, or poseable doll bodies) can react just by touching, and the harder plastic will often melt, leaving an impression of the softer plastic behind, or even bonding them together permanently. Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
If its a 1998-2006 Clio, the top of the dash can be easily removed and replaced. Its about 9 screws. It splits above the clocks, central locking buttons & airbag area.
Assuming the car is used, I would price up one from the breakers.
Here is one for £25 - --> Link <--0 -
this happened to me with a renault scenic
my grip mat was made by JML and cost apx £3 from Asda
i just purchased another one and stuck it in the same place - better than getting annoyed by the damage every day :beer:0 -

Stick them all over the car, and then demand the pound shop buy you a brand new clio."Love you Dave Brooker! x"

Hi all on the forum... new bloke here...here is my tail of woe
I purchased a sticky pad from a local 99p shop and gave it to my son for his Renault Clio, he had it on the dash for a couple of weeks and when he took it off to clean his car found it had damaged the plastic of the dash, it had puckered up (wrinckled) under where the sticky pad had been place and the dash board is now ruined... what is the best course of action? should i be able to pursue the company to get the damaged dashboard replaced?
Your son needs to sue you as you supplied it to him.
Is he the litigious sort?
Perhaps you should offer to settle with him before going to court?"Love you Dave Brooker! x"
