You have to go by yourself to give the crew the chance to excel.
Don’t make the mistake of viewing it as a MS.
McGyp is a highly competitive team sport, requiring multiple and sometimes quite complex skills.
From the basic things like observation, detection, speed and accuracy of delivery, to the more arcane and advanced arts, including putting the slippery floor sign in front of the bog door before we can get in there.
Have to say I am a big fan.
I know someone who works in McGyp and I asked them about these visits. They said that they know who the person is each time they see them because they always ask for a funny order. The staff are on red alert for these shoppers and that they have a code word if one comes in - hence the floor show :rotfl::rotfl:Survey Queen/Poundland Fanatic:rotfl:0 -

I wonder what the funny order is. My order requirements have always been very standard and a popular choice among ordinary customers. It is the receipt that triggers everything in my experience. On saying that, now a few of the restaurants have got used to me all that happens is that the duty manager comes over for a chat which is quite nice I think as by then pretty much everything has been assessed anyway. I am still waiting for the moment when one gets up the courage to ask me if I am MS'ing them. It has not happened yet but I feel it is imminent with a couple of the younger staff who like to chat. That could be awkward.0 -

I'm not sure about the funny order, the only permitted meal items are standard. I agree with sukitnsee, asking for a receipt can ring alarm bells, but half the assessment has been done by that point anyway. One restaurant I do may have clocked on to me, they do perform a little show for me now! All the others I've been too though clearly have no idea. One restaurant I went to I had very bad service from, and I forgot to get a receipt so I went back to the counter afterwards to ask - I think there was a moment of realisation from the staff (inc the manager) as they all thought "oh no"...0 -
There are a few factors that all added together greatly increase the chance of it being a mystery shopper. If they treat everybody that matches them all well then they wont go far wrong.
When they get a match some restaurants I have visited ask, would you like a receipt with your meal? Bingo!
The most obvious one I had was where there seemed to be a delay in cooking and quite a few customers were standing around waiting for orders. I was told to take a seat and my order was delivered by the manager very quickly. I saw at least one customer clock the service I got, with a look of amazement.0 -
I don't shop for Gyp but I do know how to get a floor show and I do get very good service, the manager of our local is convinced I'm their shopper, I'm not going to dispel his fantasy.0

It's the receipt that seems to give it away as everyone else has said they know the time frames so they probably treat everyone who orders the allowed items as being a shopper. I always get asked at the payment window do you want a receipt.
When I've been to the same drive thru outside the time and ordered the same order never asked or even given a receipt I'm lucky if I get napkins. During the time frame and when I order something not allowed I'm not asked for a receipt.
I was convinced at one point they knew I was the MS but after reading the above and my last few experiences its how all crew members act during these timeframes with these orders.0
