Future proofs you from what?
If you are suggesting that you get one for 3 years and if during that three years you lose the qualifying benefit, you can carry on using it?
You can't.
As soon as you become ineligible by virtue of the lost benefit - you must NOT use the card - it should be destroyed.
If my thinking is correct you are suggesting that they can carry out an illegal act by using the card when you know that you are not entitled to it any longer.
Much the same as the Tax Credits NHS Exemption card - if you cease to be eligible you cannot use it even though it may have 10/11 months still to run.0 -

Have you got a link to actually say you cant.
Its completely different from a tax Credits NHS Exemption card. Completely different .
Proof, not your way of thinking does it. Lets have a link, then we can put it to bed.....
At the risk of being slated because you are a relatively new member, you are actually sounding just a tiny bit pompous, just lighten up a bit, we are normally a pretty friendly bunch.....make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
As an ex rail employee in a previous existence this is my understanding of Disabled Railcards:
1) as long as you pay your money and satisfy all the eligibility criteria http://www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk/what-is-a-disabled-persons-railcard/am-i-eligible you can have a railcard
2) the eligibility criteria are based on one year cards. The three year option is a later addition
3) once the card has been issued it can be used for the whole period purchased regardless of current status of disability - this will be the important part for those who qualified under DLA but have been refused PIP
4) there is no requirement to return the disabled railcard unless you choose to do so.
5) there is no reassessment of disability criteria until renewal time
6) the only withdrawal option for the card is fraudulent use with regard to ticket purchases, or faked initial eligibility. Not changes of disability status.
7) the card remains the property of the train companies so it should simply be returned to a station or customer service office if no longer required.0 -
Interestingly on the Disabled Persons Railcard website here:
http://www.disabledpersons-railcard.co.uk/news-features/changes_to_railcard_eligibility_criteria
dealing with the change from DLA to PIP, it states:
If you currently receive Disability Living Allowance but need to apply for Personal Independence Payments you can still get a Disabled Persons Railcard. You will need to provide either a copy of your award letter showing receipt of one or more of the eligible components of Disability Living Allowance in the past 12 months, or a copy of your award letter for Personal Independence Payments going forward.
If you already have a Disabled Persons Railcard and keep renewing your Railcard, the new criteria will not affect you.
This last paragraph seem to imply that once you have qualified for a railcard, providing you keep renewing it, it doesn't matter whether or not one qualifies for PIP or not, one is entitled to renew the railcard.

well that flies in the face of logic!! So what you are saying is that if you were entitled to a disability Railcard back in say 1994 by virtue of a DLA award that lasted say 12 months, and provided that you continually renewed that card for the next 19 years, it would be legal and above board to continue to use it even if you have no current disabilities?
That to me says potential fraud. I'm off to write to the powers that be to bring this to their attention - that is abuse on a massive scale.
I handed back my Adult Disability Railcard back in 2004, after my DLA award went down from HRM & HRC to LRM. I could only apply for it again when I was re-awarded HRM & HRC in 2011.0 -

That is possibly true. You don't have to provide proof of entitlement upon renewing.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0
