New car- good deal? Has anyone got better?

Very, very, very unlikely.
I guess you are probably looking at what franchised dealers are ASKING or something? There are few new-ish cars that only drop £100 per year.
Well it's p/x value is very close to what I originally paid (in cash i.e. not including p/x of old car) in fact it's actually a bit higher.
The trade value is only about £100 less than the FULL price when I bought it, but it was very competitively priced to start with.
Regardless it would still be less of a drop than the first year from new.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

I've got a diesel focus and it gets between 550-650 miles per tank depending on time of year and type of driving. Would obviously get less if you're heavy footed or carry heavy loads.Mortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

Just don't get the 1.6 diesel if you go for a Focus MKII, you may as well buy a 2.0 petrol as longterm costs can end up being similar.0

I think that's about the 3rd or 4th time that a post from me mentioning my car has been directly followed by a post from you - you really hate my car don't you! Starting to feel picked onMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)

If you can sell it for about what you paid, then do it, you will thank me in the future.0 -
I would avoid signing up for 60 payments for starters. It seems like a good idea when you get your nice shiny new car but you'll be fed up less than half way through the cycle.0

Yeah I thought 5 years was a long time. The dealer wouldn't discuss the PCP with me. I think I'm gonna go for a second hand car now!
I'm a tad confused over which focus model if I was going to get one. I might find a few cars and see what people think!
( sorry I know nothing about cars!!!)0 -

I had the 2.0 PSA diesel and that nearly ruined me, the 1.6 suffers from the same DPF/DMF issues but adds the element of an unreliable turbo, which are known to be trouble even after they have been replaced once.

I just wanted to agree with all of that. As I've also posted before IanRi, I would seriously consider selling your car before you do start getting expensive faults. A bit of time spent searching online for faults relating to the engine in your car will show you what we mean.0 -
In 2 years I will, almost certainly. But at the moment it's a great car. I was well aware of the issues related to the 1.6 tdci engine before I bought it and I do not doubt what you and Jamie have said at all! However I researched it a lot in advance and decided that it seemed to be more of an issue in cars before changes made from 08 onwards and that regular oil changes (more regular than official service intervals) and general things like letting turbo spool down before switching off engine would minimise the risk.
All cars have potential problems with them, there are many examples of this particular one, but if I just made my car choice based on the online horror stories I've read about different cars then I probably wouldn't buy one at all!
Anyway I wasn't recommending a multiple blown turbo focus to the OP, I just said that my focus isn't fuel thirsty because OP seemed to think that they all are. It also doesnt change what I said about used vs new cars. Parkers owner reviews are full of horror stories about cars fresh from the factory.
What car is best for you is a very personal choice and as others have said figures alone are meaningless. If you ask for peoples experience of them you'll get at least as many loving a Jazz for instance as hating them. You need to test them yourself but it is still worth reading around so you understand potential issues and how to avoid them (some might be deal breakers)
If I had to use finance then I'd get the cheapest car I possibly couldMortgage remaining: £42,260 of £77,000 (2.59% til 03/18 - 2.09% til 03/23)
