Was it really necessary to shut central London down for 2 days cycling?

Get used to not being able to drive a car in Central London, it's the future0

Cycling should be banned - discuss
Events like this, shouldn't actually be allowed. Why promote something that is dangerous and completely uncontrolled. I'm sure there are plenty of good cyclists, but this type of event makes amateurs think they can mix it up with the big boys, and think, never seen a cyclist stop for a red light, i wont start it now im on two wheels, and splat!0 -

No it shouldn't, end of discussion.

You work and livbe in London, you are well away that just 1 roadworks or blocked road can wreak havoc all around that area. So magnify that with several road closures - what do you expect?
There is also plenty of public transport in London, you can make your essential trips via tube if you want to
This was a planned cycling event, not vital roadworks to keep London running.
I support the promotion of cycling (I cycle 10 miles 3 times a week), but I also believe that things could have been done differently.
Let me also add that I have taken part in previous Sky ride events in Central London, and none caused the disruption, traffic and complaints that this one did.
2 days was an overkill.
In my opinion, it could have been done in one single day.
No need to close Blackwall tunnel.
Some roads and bridges should have re-opened as soon as the race left London.
To share the road closure "pain", the race should have ended in a different part of central London, somewhere in the northern or western part of the city (Baker Street, Euston, Kings Cross, Edgware Road, Notting Hill Gate, Kensington, etc).
It wasn't just cars that were affected. A lot of bus routes were diverted and others did not run at all today, disrupting the life of a lot of people.
Some might call it a whinge, I call it valid points and valuable feedback for a future event.Member 7 of 100 to 10k - £100 to £10k = £1490 -

The people with a brain, would of used the tube.0 -
People still drive in Central London?!? It's been well known about for a while though, I'd have thought if a guy from a hick town in Scotland knew about it that anyone who lives/works in London would as well.Retired member - fed up with the general tone of the place.0

So, complaining about the 'lack of planning' for an event that was well-planned, well-advertised and everyone knew about for at least 2 weeks because you 'had to do something today in a short period of time'? Where does it appear the lack of planning happened? It's only numbers.0
